2 Quality of end semester examination, internal semester question papers, assignments


and evaluation (20)

The internal assessment marks for theory is based on three tests conducted as per the
calendar of events. Program Coordinator along with test coordinator is responsible for the
conduction of the test. The department has a Scrutinizing Committee, comprising of Dean,
HoD and Five senior faculty members to check the quality of the question paper, BT levels
and COs compliance.
Continuous Internal Assessment Test

For each course of the program, the Continuous Internal Assessment Test is
conducted to assess the student’s knowledge and their understanding ability.

2015 & 2018 Regulation:

 Three Internal Assessments were conducted per semester. Assessments I & II each
covers 30% of the syllabus and Assessment III covers 40% syllabus of the respective
Courses.
 This assessment process helps the students to prepare them for end semester
examination and also gives the insight of overall understanding in the respective
course.

 This continuous assessment process helps the faculty member to monitor the
knowledge attainment of students.

 The Assessment pattern is given below.

Project Review

 Regular reviews are conducted for the students with the respective supervisors. The
review team consists of professor of various grades and stream. The idea behind the
review is to monitor the progress in the review work and also to ensure that the
student is following the right path towards the achieving the objectives of the project.

 A final assessment is conducted with the help of an external examiner. The scores are
based on various parameters, fixed with a focus on the entire course of study.

 These kinds of scheduled reviews help the students to develop their research,
communication and team management skills.

End Semester Examination

 For each course of the program, end semester external examination is conducted.
 The Students who have minimum eligible mark shall be allowed to give the end
semester examination.
 The answer scripts are evaluated by both the internal and external evaluators to assess
the overall knowledge attainment of student in respective course.
 The external evaluators are utilized 90% for Question paper setting and 50% for
evaluating the papers. The internal evaluators are utilized 10% for Question paper
setting and 50% for evaluating the papers.

Process for Internal Assessment Test Question Paper Setting:


 The course co-ordinator sets the question paper for the Internal Assessment.
 The course co-ordinator ensures to frame questions based on various BT levels and
are mapped to the Course Outcomes (COs) to assess the students at various BT levels.
 A question paper template is shown in Figure 2.2.2.1. The course coordinator decides
the number of questions and marks allotted for each question.
 The course coordinator submits the question paper to the scrutinizing committee
(DEC) and the committee checks the quality and BT level and CO compliance and
suggests any changes, if required.
 The final copy of the question paper is filed in the Department Exam Committee file.

Procedure for Conduction and Evaluation of Internal Assessment Test:
 The time table for the Internal Assessment Test will be announced in the notice board
One Week prior to the commencement of the test.
 Department provides answer booklets for writing three internal assessment tests and
shall be maintained by the Department for at least one year after the announcement of
results and available for verification.
 The students write the test in their allotted seats as per the department schedule in a
test hall, under the invigilation of a faculty member.
 The scheme of valuation for the question paper is prepared by the course co-ordinator
ensuring appropriate distribution of marks for fair valuation.
 The course co-ordinator valuates the Answer scripts adhering to the scheme of
valuation.
 The faculties after every internal assessment test they explain the solution of the
questions in the class which will enable them to perform well in the final examination.
 For any genuine reasons, if a student was unable to perform well in the given three
internal assessment tests, improvement test is given to him/her.
 The course coordinator submits the question paper to the scrutinizing committee and
the committee checks the quality and RBT level and CO compliance and suggests any
changes, if required.
Assignments
 The course coordinator announces assignment topic, submission dates and
communicates in the class.
 Assignments are designed in such a way to promote self-learning from various
sources.
 Assignments are evaluated and feedback is given to the students to improve their
learning and appreciate their efforts.
Seminar
 For each course the seminar is given to the students for developing their knowledge
and communication skills.
Moodle
 For each course the Moodle online test is given to the students for developing their
higher order thinking levels.
Procedure for final Internal Marks
 The Internal Assessment marks will be sent well in advance to the university before
the commencement of theory examination. The Internal Assessment test conduction
procedure for theory is illustrated through flowchart in Figure 2.2.2.3.
