ScalpaJect Hyaluron Pen and Hyaluronic Acid

Thank you for choosing ScalpaJect Hyaluronic Acid Gel for both needle and Hyaluron Pen
injection. We at Scalpa want to emphasize a few very important notes regarding our HA gels, as
well as Hyaluron Pen injections.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is the most hydrating substance in the world. A natural sugar that is present in
your body, it provides skin tissue with adequate moisture levels. Because the human body creates
this chemical naturally, it is impossible for you to have any allergic reaction to treatments using
hyaluronic acid.

With time, the body decreases its hyaluronic acid production. In mature or neglected skin,
collagen fibers can dry up and become thinner, giving the skin a dull and dehydrated look.
Hyaluronic acid’s main function is to attract moisture and retain water in the skin. When the
body has lower levels of hyaluronic acid, a decrease of hydration and elasticity will occur. This
process is what causes skin to sag and wrinkles to form. By adding hyaluronic acid to skin tissue,
it revives its collagen activity thus promoting a fresher, younger and fuller effect.

Note: In 2015, hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers accounted for more than 92% of all filler
treatments in the US. A growth in HA filler popularity likely reflects their excellent safety
profile, efficacy and ease of administration.

All hyaluronic acid gels are natural substances and their longevity cannot be guaranteed or
predicted, as the body is able to naturally break them down. Average duration of any hyaluronic
acid based gel can last anywhere from 2-6 months, but the results will greatly vary from person
to person based on many factors. We can't emphasize this important fact enough! Whether you
are performing this on yourself or on clients, please take in or relay this fact.

Scalpaject Hyaluronic Acid Gel

Hyaluronic acid gel consists of long chains of hyaluronic acid. Most filler products will consist
of hyaluronic acid cross-linked molecules which are then processed as a homogeneous gel or a
suspension of particles in gel carriers.

Variability in methods used to manufacture hyaluronic acid gels have given rise to differences in
properties such as degree of cross-linkage, particle size and concentration. These properties are
vital in determining the clinical performance of the gel. Chains of hyaluronic acid are linked
using hydrogen bonds, forming stable complexes. This may provide some advantages in limiting
the risk of hypersensitivity reactions because of the lack of chemicals used in the manufacturing
process may be more acceptable to some patients.
Here at Scalpa, it is important for us to provide the best high-quality product for you and your
patients. ScalpaJect is Pure Cross-Linked Hyaluronic Acid. The gel has been well-tested in
clinical studies and proven safe with no potential side effects.

We offer both ScalpaJect fine line gel as well as ScalpaJect PLUS deep line gel. We will cover
the differences between the two as well as suggested areas for both.

For a more cost-effective approach, we offer 3ml, 5ml and 10ml syringes. Shelf life for
unopened syringes is one year. Once a syringe has been opened, it should be refrigerated in an
airtight, sterile envelope or container and used within six months.

Scalpaject should be left at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before injecting if taken out
of the refrigerator.

Hyaluronic Acid Fine Line Gel vs. Deep Line Gel

ScalpaJect Fine Line is used more superficially to eliminate fine lines. It was important for us to
create a Hyaluronic Acid gel to enhance fine lines and moderate enhancements without the risk
of placing deep gels high up in the skin as their placement may result in bluish discoloration
sometimes referred to as the “Tyndall effect.” Additionally, it’s made of a double- cross linked
technology that yields a smooth cohesive gel that degrades slowly over time.

Areas of Injection:

ScalpaJect Fine Line is excellent for fine etched lines and wrinkles, for use around the mouth and
subtle lip enhancements. It is excellent for subtle enhancement and softening around vertical lip
lines, marionette lines, softer nasolabial folds, parentheses, and small chin lines. It is also
extremely useful in eliminating fine lines around eyes and crow’s feet. This product could also
be used in other areas such as horizontal neck lines and filling the 11’s, the etched in lines from
furrowing one’s eyebrows.

ScalpaJect PLUS Deep Line is used to fill in deep lines and folds, creating more enhancement
and fuller lips. Additionally, it’s made of a double- cross linked technology that yields a smooth
cohesive gel that degrades slowly over time.

Areas of Injection:

ScalpaJect PLUS is excellent for deep wrinkles and folds like nasolabial folds, shaping facial
contours, concave areas, cheeks, chin and nose, as well as fuller lip augmentations.

Hyaluron Pen:

Again, because we cannot express enough, the Hyaluron Pen will create a much more natural
look than standard needle injections, even with ScalpaJect PLUS. This is not to be intended to
produce the same results as needle injections. Please inform your clients so they have realistic
expectations.

Hyaluronic Acid gels can easily be inserted over time with multiple sessions. This will allow for
more natural looking results that last longer. Remember that ScalpaJect Hyaluronic Acid gel and
serums composed of hyaluronic acid increase one’s own collagen production. Therefore, with
every hyaluronic acid enhancement, you are encouraging human collagen production leading to
longer lasting results from injections. We at Scalpa like to refer to this as “layering." This is a
safe way to receive conservative facial enhancements. It is better to add 1-3 ml of ScalpaJect
Hyaluronic Acid gel every 3-4 months during the first few appointments rather than over
injecting to achieve that instant POP. Once a client’s enhancement goals are met, you can then
determine and develop a maintenance plan for future appointments. Hyaluronic Acid is also best
when it is built upon itself. This is why those with previous injections usually have better results
with HA. We recommend another session to build on your HA.

How long will the results last?

For optimum and long-lasting results, Scalpa recommends 4-6 treatments for patients/clients who
are new to injections. Once your patient/client completes 4-6 treatments the results can typically
last from 7-9 months. Something to note is that with all HA filler injections, the more you do the
longer it lasts as hyaluronic acid is best when built on itself.
Needle/Pen Filler Enhancements Side Effects

Three of the most common side effects with any filler enhancement is swelling, bruising and
possibly small lumps or bead size bumps. However, with the Hyaluron Pen injections, these side
effects are minimal to none. In any case, please read the following information carefully...

Avoiding Bruising

Although needle free injections seldom cause bruising, it can happen. With a little knowledge on
your part bruising can be minimized.
Bruising after Derma Fillers can’t be cured or fixed, other than to cover it with make-up, so the
goal with bruising is to prevent it in the first place. Here are a few tips on how to avoid filler
bruises that we provide to our patients.

#1- No aspirin, Aleve, or Ibuprofen 1 week prior to your appointment (Tylenol is fine)
Do not take Vitamin E 1 week prior to injections. Your multivitamin is okay. Stop alcohol 2 days
prior to injections. No garlic 2 days prior to injections. Eat pineapple 2-3 times 1-2 days prior to
injections.
Take Arnica one day prior or morning of injections. You can find it at most drugstores and often
at Whole Foods. Drink plenty of water before and after injections. Body dehydration is known to
dissolve Hyaluronic Acid fillers rather quickly. The more water you drink the longer the product
will last in the lips as Hyaluronic Acid molecules expand by retaining water a 1,000x it’s
weight.

#2- Lump or Bumps In Lips

Depending on thickness of filler product and the size of lips, a somewhat common side effect of
lip fillers are small lumps or tiny bumps. These are usually small bruises underneath the filler,
but the bruises can feel like a small lump or bump. Sometimes the filler settles at injection site
and can be smoothed out with a light lip massage after injection. Massaging lips gently will help
smooth any bumps or lumps, but if bruising is present avoid the massage until bruising has
diminished. I will go over the proper massage technique used to help smooth out any product
lumps or bumps. If lumps are caused from bruising it’s best to leave lips alone and allow time to
heal and settle on its own. Most bumps and lumps settle after 7-10 days. Another side effect of
lip injections that often appear in lips that have either been injected multiple times over or simply
a reaction to the HA filler is known as product bumps or cysts. These bumps typically show up
weeks or sometimes months after injection of filler. In this situation, the product can be removed
or dissolved using a few different types of techniques. These procedures will be discussed with
you in detail in person by your practitioner. With the Hyaluron Pen these side effects are greatly
minimized.

#3- Swelling
Some swelling will occur. Icing and arnica will help with swelling and bruising. 20 minutes on
and 20 minutes off throughout the next few days after injection. It’s also important to
understand that the filler product once injected can also expand an additional 10% several hours
after injection once the cross -inked filler molecules begin to absorb the water in the body. Note
that if swelling and expansion is not desired then it would be best to avoid consuming liquids
until swelling goes down. Arnica comes in both a topical ointment and pill form and is a
wonderful all-natural remedy for both bruising and swelling. Again, with the Hyaluron Pen these
side effects are greatly minimized.

Filling & Using Your Pen

Fill your ampoules by connecting dispensing tip to your syringe. Insert the end of the dispensing
tip into the ampoule almost to the end starting at the first notch. Gently squeeze the syringe into
the ampoule avoiding any air bubbles from entering. Stop filling at the last notch on your
ampoule so there is enough room for the stopped to be inserted back into the ampoule.

Unscrew your hyaluron pen all the way then screw in your newly filled ampoule. Once the
ampoule is attached, cock the pen and twist down to the desired amount you want to inject.

This will usually always be .01-.03 at a time. Continue cocking the pen and moving down 1-3
notches each time depending on how much you are wanting to inject.
