Classroom or learning environments are significant for teachers most especially for the students.

Everything inside the classroom such as the arrangement of the desks sends impressions to students and
can affect the way a student learns. Not just physical factors but including the emotional, physiological
and many others. The graphic organize abive shows the 6 strands of learning environment Domain 2
which is based on PPST or Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers.

First strand gives emphasis to the learner safety and security. Safety and security encompasses social
and emotional well-being. Learners deserve to feel comfortable and secure at school so they can focus
on learning since safety means freedom from physical or emotional harm while security is freedom from
the threat or fear of harm or danger.

Next is about Fair Learning Environment. According to Stephen Brookfield, author of the Skillful teacher,
perceptions of unfairness can undermine the trust between student and teacher that is necessary for
effective learning. As a teacher it is necessary for you to be fair to all of your students. Make a point to
always hear students out and treat each one of your pupils with dignity and respect. Don't make
differences in them and give the ones that appear a bit disobedient as much respect as you give those
who present themselves respectfully all of the time.

The third strand talks about the management of classroom structure and activities. You must be
prepared each time that you walk into your class room. Each day you should carefully plan your day by
developing a daily schedule as well as a lesson plan, the most essential weapon a teacher can have to
provide a sense of direction. It is also important to set rules on the first day of class to minimize problem.

Fourth strand is support for learner participation. It is important to encourage everyone to participate
especially those students who don't participate at all. As a teacher, you must not focus only to those
students who volunteer everyday but you should look for those students who don't participate to help
them boost their confidence.

Next strand is about the promotion of purposive learning. Learning must have value for the learners.
The teacher's objectives must not exlude one of Bloom's domain of knowledge but always include the
three domains which are the cognitive, psychomotor and most impotantly, the affective domain.

Lastly, the management of learner behavior. This strand is about setting of rules inside the classroom in
order for the teacher to minimize problems. The rules must set at the beginning of the school year.

But all of these will be useless especially in the Philipine setting particularly in public schools, because at
the end of the day it will still matter on your classroom management and how you introduces your
instruction.
