Customs from Portugal

Carnaval is traditional parade where people from all over the world come to
see the Compañias de Samba that fill the streets of Funchal, with music and
dance.

Festival de Colombo is an event, which takes place in Porto Santo in early


September. It is the festival dedicated to Christopher Columbus, with music,
shows, exhibitions and a parade about life in Madeira and the Portuguese
discoveries.

Monte Festival takes place during the month of August on 14 and 15 around
the famous church of Monte, where families and friends gather to sing,
dance, eat and drink all night. The following day a mass is celebrated and
then a procession in which the pilgrims of Senhora do Monte participate and
thank for all the blessings.

Fiestas de San Antonio in Lisboa, In all the neighborhoods there are popular
parades and the streets are decorated.

Festivals of the Sé is a traditional annual event takes place in the old streets
of downtown Funchal, in mid-may and until the beginning of June. This is the
liveliest place on the island, many typical folklore bands fill the streets of
Madeira with music and dance.
