Ans : (a) Metal containers :

it include steel drums, tin, with push on/screw on closure aluminium


foil and cans

1. advantages :
 good heat transmission
 resistance to thermal shock and both during heating and cooling
 light weight
 resistance to physical damage
 impermeable to light & air
2. Disadvantages :
 Contents cannot be seen by purchaser
Steel drums : they are large cylindrical metal conatiners with capacity between10-
240 litres and they are mainly uses are bulk, safety, and bulk storage of
ingredients

(B)Plastics :

 They are generally made of polypropenlyne, polyether, PVC, PET.


 The Advantages are cost effective, light weight , available as clear or coloured,
squeezable, useful for spreading
 Common application are :
1. Plastic bottles (non-alcoholic beverages, cooking oil, ketchup and sauce )
2. Plastic jars (honey spread, peanut butter)
3. Plastic cups (yoghurt , ice cream)

(Q) write a note on flexible packaging.

Ans: it is any packae whose shape can be readily changed , it includes liners, pouches, sample
package. Advantages:

 It is customisable as per needs. It can be any shape and size to suit the product
 It offers creativity to attract the customer
 They have reusable features. Such as ziplock, resealable seal
 It allows the use of rotogravure printing technology, which make logo and other data very
clear
 Economical and eco-friendly
