Which segment of the industry (architecture, engineering, construction, or related

field) do you wish to enter and why? Were you planning a career in this field
before starting the ACE program or did ACE help steer you in that direction? If
so, how/why? Also, please tell us your top three choice for your future education
(what schools)
My career goal is to enter the industry of engineering. My particular interest in
engineering stems from my academic passion and success in math and science.
Because of my enjoyment of math problem solving led to my involvement in the
Mathematics Club. I obtained leadership positions by becoming an officer in Math Club.
My responsibilities include coordinating math tutoring, stimulating student interest by
doing and explaining problems, and participating in Mathlete competitions. I am also a
dedicated member of Science Club, where we learn about scientific research, critical
thinking, and scientific awareness. I organize field trips like the New York Hall of
Science and perform labs such as building bridges made of balsa wood and metal
corrosion experiments. Another reason for my engineering interest is the fact that my
father is a professional Civil Engineer. I look forward to the weekends, since they are
always filled with many father-son field trips visiting the numerous engineering sites that
he designed.
I participated in an engineering camp at Purdue University last summer, which
strengthened my decision to study engineering. I connected with so many people who
have a similar passion for engineering studies. We were all placed in teams of four and
worked on many interesting projects over the week. Our cohesive team constructed a
four foot rollercoaster made of K’Nex pieces with a loop, one hundred eighty degree
turn, and a steep hill, created a robot with circuits utilizing Arduino Programming, and
3D printed a gear with Purdue on it using Google Sketch Up. During these activities, I
learned the importance of teamwork.
The ACE program helped steer me in the right direction. They helped me realize that I
want to pursue my career in engineering. For my future education of Civil Engineering, I
am considering the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Purdue University in
West Lafayette, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg,
Virginia.
