SIMPLE ACT OF KINDNESS 
 
Education  has  been  and  will  always  be  an  integral  part  of  an  individual’s  life  as it is one 
the  primarily  responsible  for  the  process  of  acquiring  the  necessary  knowledge,  skills,  and 
values.  Needless  to  say,  it  also  affects  how  the  society  functions  as  the  former  is  being  run by 
the  people themselves. Hence, with education, the human race has been able to develop various 
technologies and discover life-changing ideologies. 
Unfortunately,  it  is  not  as  easy  as  we  think  it  is.  Currently,  the  majority  of  the  Philippine 
population  has  been  deprived  of  access  to  quality  education,  primarily  due  to  widespread 
occurrence  of  poverty.  They  are  not  able  to  buy  the  needed  materials  for  school  (e.g.  pencils, 
pens,  notebooks,  books,  paper,  and  the  like)  making  them  not  able  to  maximize  learning.  Also, 
some also are not able to enroll at all. 
The  said  premise  is what we think the main reason a lot of Filipinos are not able to finish 
schooling.  Even  after  the  period where they devote their time to work, they are not anymore able 
to  go  back  to  school.  However,  fortunately,  some  are  able  to  through  the  Alternative  Learning 
System  (ALS)  program.  This  program  aims  to  aid  those  who  are  not  able  to  finish  the  basic 
education  curriculum  through  a  special  setup  wherein  they  are  promulgated  with  the  needed 
knowledge  and  skills  for  basic  education  graduation.  Of  course,  again,  not  everyone  is  able  to 
buy the needed school supplies for such. 

 
 
As  someone  who  is  currently  living  a  life  who  may  be  a  dream  to  others,  it  is  my  (our) 
duty  to  lend  a  hand  to  them.  With  this,  our  group  has  came  up  with  the  idea  to  donate  some 
school  supplies  to  the  volunteering  program  of  the Lasallian Scholars’ Society (LSS). According 
to one of their project heads: 
“Through  the  proposed  volunteering  activity,  we  would  be  able  to  share  our  knowledge 
and  resources  as  we  assist  in  the  implementation  of  the  Alternative  Learning  System 
(ALS)  Program  at  DLSU  ALS  Center.  Additionally,  we  would  be able to aid in the learning 
development  of  the  students,  empowering  them  to  develop  the  necessary  skills  and 
competencies  for  career  progression.  Hopefully,  the  conduct  of  the  proposed  activity 
would  help  shed  light  on  the  critical  issue  on  the  lack  of  education  in  our  nearby 
communities and ultimately in the society at large” 

 
We  believe  that  through  our  small  act  of  kindness, we are able to somehow alleviate the 
difficulty  one  or  more  students  may  have  in  their  schooling.  Although  this  may  be  something 
small,  we  consider this act as a stepping stone for us in achieving our life-long mission as God’s 
children - that is to help our brothers and sisters in Christ in their times of need.
