DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10

Subject: Science
Time: 7:30 – 8:30
Class: Grade 10 Magenta
Venue: Magenta
Date: March 4, 2019

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the student’s must be able to:
A. Recognize the major categories of biomolecules such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins,
and nucleic acids;
B. Appreciate the important and function of Biomolecules.
C. Differentiate the biomolecules from each other in terms of their structure and function.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: Biomolecules
B. Reference: Science Learner’s Material 10, pp. 443
C. Materials: Visual Aids, pictures and manila paper.
D. Values Integration: Active Participation and cooperation
E. Pre-requisites concepts: Knowledge about different types of food that give different
nutrients to our body.
III. LEARNING PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Ok class, let’s all stand as we pray.
2. Checking of Attendance
Let’s check your attendance.
Good morning class, how do you feel right now?
3. Assignment
Class do we have any assignment?
B. Review
What was our topic last meeting?
C. Motivation
Class, think about the food you eat every day, what nutrients did you get from the food
you eat? And in what way it can help to our body?
I have here a pictures of different foods we eat during breakfast.
What nutrients or vitamins we get from this food?
D. Presentation
Today we are going to discuss about Biomolecules.
E. Discussion
Ok class, good morning, today we are going to discuss about the Biomolecules.
Class what do you mean about the word Biomolecules?
All forms of life are composed of biomolecules only. Biomolecules are organic molecules
especially macromolecules like carbohydrates, proteins in living organisms. All living
forms like bacteria, algae, plant and animals are made of similar macromolecules that
are responsible for life. All the carbon compounds we get from living tissues can be
called biomolecules.
Definition of Biomolecules
- Biomolecules are molecules that occur naturally in living organism.
- Or biological molecule is a loosely used term for molecules and ions that are present
in organisms, essential to some typically biological process such as cell division,
morphogenesis or development.
- It consist macromolecules like proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids.
Classes of Biomolecules
 Carbohydrates
 Lipids
 Proteins
 Nucleic Acids
Carbohydrates – are good source of energy
It classified into three; Monosaccharide’s, Disaccharide’s and
Polysaccharides.
F. Application
I will group you into two groups. Then right your own understanding about the
description and function of each of the following. Then present it front.

Description Function

Carbohydrates

Monosaccharides

Disaccharides

Polysaccharides

G. Generalization
Ok class do you have any clarification? Questions?
Again what are the three classification of Biomolecules?
Carbohydrates classified into three, what are those?
Let’s have a quiz, get one fourth sheet of paper.
H. Evaluation
1. What is Biomolecules?
2 – 5. What are the classes of biomolecules?
6 – 7. Give at least two example of carbohydrates.
8 – 10. All carbohydrates contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. They are classified into
three, what are they?

IV. ASSIGNMENT
Give your analysis about the food processing inside our body.

V. REMARKS
The topic is not yet done. It will be continued tomorrow.
