BSIT-III
Dead Stars by: Paz Marquez Benitez

The story entitled Dead Star revolves around the romantic relationships between the three
characters named Alfredo, Esperanza and Julia. It is all about the man who fell out of love to his
fiancée who is Esperanza because of Julia. But Alfredo has to make a choice between pursuing
his romantic feelings for Julia or fulfilling his promise of matrimony to Esperanza. But then
again, he chooses the latter, even though he still have the feelings for Julia. Then time comes, he
has to accept that his feeling for Julia are gone and he is now contented with his life. And what
he had felt for Julia was just like the "dead star" long extinguished yet seemingly still in their
appointed places in heaven.
The story is about a man who’s uncertain of what he really wants and who’s trapped in a
decision of a lifetime that could change everything in his life. The account doesn't only focus on
the idea of love, but also, it exhibits how one conquers himself by understanding his true
feelings. Certainly, Alfredo was once in love with Esperanza but there are a lot of things that has
changed including his feelings towards her and that could be the reason why he also fell in love
with Julia. After reading the story, I realized that it is hard to fall in love between two people
because you are forced to sacrifice everything you’ve got. In my opinion, dead stars pertain to a
dream that doesn’t exist for the reason that Alfredo loves Julia but they can’t be together because
of some society circumstances. Indeed, it gave us an idea that we should not expect too much
and time has its own way of changing a person’s life. I find the story cliché because most of the
short story written before was somehow have the same plot. Even though the literary piece was
written in the past, it somehow depicts the modern society because it provides us the similar
information of what is happening in the lives of many people.

Oli Impan by: Alberto S. Florentino

The story tells about an innocent girl who thought that the property was owned by them
and insisted on staying there. She knows nothing about how to deal with the situation, she just
cried and we can imagine that she looks so miserable because she belongs to a poor family and
because of the Christmas song rendered by the boy who comforted her, she felt calmed.
By the story, the girl who understood the situation by the acts made by the boy, his way
of explaining things in his own way, would be closer to the boy who solved the problem of her
family. And by the explanations of the boy, she will strive hard, so that someday she will no
longer be a squatter in anyone’s property, but she will have her own property through hard work.
The story is good for us because the Christmas is near, just love. Advance merry
Christmas sir
