INTRODUCTION

Work immersion refers to the part of the SHS Curriculum consisting of 80 hours of
hands-on experience or work simulation which the Grades 11 and 12 students will undergo to
expose them to the actual workplace setting and to enrich the competencies provided by the
school under the supervision of the School Head and the designated personnel of the partner.
This said immersion is done outside the school premises depending on the student’s selected
strand/ course. This activity will help them familiarize themselves to their target job’s purpose
or on how their course should supposed to look in the actual field. I personally think that this
is a great head start for us especially to those who are still not decided if their chosen course
will be the key to their dream jobs. I know that there are still some of us that have questions in
their minds specifically, on what will be their future if they took their desired courses. Work
immersion will help develop our lives and career skills, and will prepare us to make decisions
on postsecondary education or employment.

At the end of our immersion, we are tasked to do this narrative report to help us reflect
on what have we learned throughout our experience and this report will help us determine if
we still think that this is the appropriate course/ strand for our personality and capability. The
process of reflecting in our experience is in need to be done for our own need. This is required
to be done by every student that undergoes to work immersion and will be checked by their
class adviser for approval.

COMPANY PROFILE
HISTORY
The town of Batac was founded by the Augustinians in 1587 that placed it under the
patronage of Immaculate Conception. That is why Batac starts its fiesta celebration on the feast
day of Immaculate Concpetion on December 11.
Batac is the second oldest town established in province of Ilocos Norte. However, it is
difficult to ascertain the specific date of its foundation as a municipality. Batac is the one of
the fifteen municipalities of Ilocos Norte founded by the Spaniards. But during the early period
of the American rule in the Philippines, the Philippine Commission reduced on October 15,
1903 the Spaniards founded the financial insolvency of the province. Vance (1980) mentioned
that Banna, except the castern barrios (now barangays) was annexed to Batac from 1903 to
1913. But these barangays were riveted to Banna when it was established into municipality in
1913. There were also some barrios of Batac which were removed from her boundary with the
establishment of two new towns. Nagtrigoan, Buanga and part of Insukit were annexed to Pinili
in 1920. Likewise, the barrio of Lang-ayan and part of Cubol (now barangay Pimentel) were
annexed to Currimao in 1920.
Available records about Batac at the Filipiniana Department of the National Library,
National Historical Institute, and the National Archives do not indicate the exact date of the
foundation of Batac as a municipality.

However, folk history (Facts and Figures about Batac, 1983) reckons that there were
two villagers in Batac during the early part of the foundation of the town. One was a non-
Christian community which occupied Sitio Nangalisan (now a part of Barangay Payao) and a
Christian community which occupied San Jose (Bozeta, et.al., 1950).

The first site of the población was San Jose, now called Palpalicong. According to
Lagnition (1983), the ethnic minority groups of Bangui and Nueva Era, two other towns of
Ilocos Norte, are the pre-Spanish descendants of the early inhabitants of Batac.

The City of My Dreams Hymn

Verse 1:
As I wake up in the morning, I see the sunrise smiling
As I lay and rest at night, I look up and the stars are shining
That’s the scene in the City of my dreams
As I walk along the streets, I feel the tress freshly swaying
As I cross upon the bridge, tall buildings quite amazing
That’s the scene in the City of my dreams

Chorus:
Batac, Home of Great Leaders;
Batac Home of warm people,
You and I have nurtured this hospitable place,
Come and visit the City of my dreams
Batac Home of Great Leaders;
Batac Home of warm people,
You and I have built this admirable place,
Enjoy and have fun in the City of my dreams

Coda:
We love Batac the City of my dreams

WEEKLY REPORT

WEEK 1
On our first week as an immersionist, we’ve been deployed to our designated office.
Our advisers discussed and instruct us on what to do. I’ve done assisting clients whenever they
need a ticket number and accomplished posting the basic and sef tax of payment of properties.
The People in the office is so approachable, friendly and kind, whenever we have problems,
they are easy to approach on they even give us free snacks and they include us everytime when
there is an occasion in the office. The head of Human Resource Office discussed about the
careers will be taken up on which related to our strands. First week is a busy week, we’ve done
our parts and learned a lot and experience what does office works do.

WEEK 2

On our second week, we’ve been scheduled on what day to assist the clients. We’ve
been following the schedule throughout the week. Sometimes we encounter problems, some
clients are not getting number which leads to conflict to another client but we manage to fix it.
It is our last week in the City treasury and I will not forget how kind and approachable the
employees. And someday I will be part of their office and I will be one of their co-employees.
This immersion will be a great contribution for us because we have experience how employees
do their job and how employees act in the office.

REFLECTION

The Days I spent doing my work immersion has been one of the most amazing journeys
I ever had in my life. I experienced different situations which are far more different and
adventurous than the usual concepts and theories discussed before in the four corners of the
classroom before the work immersion.

In my 80 hours in the field, I’ve learned so much already specially in communicating

to clients by giving them ticket number whenever they are going to pay their bills. Another
thing that I’ve learn is how to post taxes in every payment of land and buildings and what is
the basic and sef tax of the city. And I can personally say that I grew more matured regarding
making wise decisions after the work immersion. I was trained to think quickly and decide
wisely based on the given work circumstances. I learned how to manage my time carefully,
making sure that I get to finish all the work tasks assigned to me without sacrificing the quality
of work and I learned how to professionally deal with people.

Indeed, this work immersion is really an unforgettable experience to me and to my

classmate. And we hope, we can meet our officers again in some places. And someday we can
be part of their office. I am thankful for this opportunity, and I cannot express my gratitude
enough for those people who helped me during my immersion and made me to be the person
that I am today.
