3 What infirmity did Bartimaeus suffer from?

Answer: Blindness

Bartimaeus was blind (Mark 10:46). He was one of several blind people in the New Testament
who met with Jesus and regained their sight.

4 "'I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way' - 'a voice of one calling
in the desert, "Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him."'" (Mark 1 v. 2-3) Mark
begins his gospel by quoting these words from the prophet Isaiah. Whom does he see as being
the fulfilment of this prophecy?

Answer: John the Baptist

"And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the
forgiveness of sins." (Mark 1 v. 4)

Mark attributes both of these quotes to Isaiah but the first is actually taken from Malachi.

5 What is the first word of the book of Mark in the King James Version?

It says in Mark 1:1, "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God."

7. Although all four of the gospels talk about the same person, they have different points of view
and sometimes give different information. Matthew starts his gospel with the geneology of Jesus.
Luke starts with the story of the birth of John the Baptist, Jesus's cousin. The gospel of John
begins with a description of one of the names of Jesus. What did Mark start his account with?

Answer: A quote from Isaiah 40:3 and John the Baptist as a grown man

When I first started reading the Bible, I couldn't understand how the four gospel accounts could
be similar in some ways, yet so
different in others. Then, I realized that witnesses to an event will act in a similar way. They
remember the general incident, but notice different specific things.

8. The letter 'B' is for 'Blind'. The Gospel of Mark tells of Jesus healing a blind man outside
Jericho. The man's name starts with the letter 'B'. Can you name him?

Answer: Bartimaeus

Bartimaeus was a helpless blind beggar who regained his sight after he had an encounter with
Jesus. His story appears in the 10th chapter of the Gospel of Mark. It's a heartwarming story and
has always been one of my favorites. In fact, the first quiz I did for FunTrivia was about blind
Bartimaeus. According to Scripture, Bartimaeus was the son of Timaeus but no other details are
given about his family.

9.The gospels of Matthew and Luke tell of Jesus' birth and early life. John's gospel begins with
Jesus' involvement in the beginning of creation. What event in Jesus' life does Mark's gospel
begin with?

Answer: His baptism

"The word baptism comes from the Greek verb baptizo meaning 'to dip, immerse, submerge.'
Baptism is a sacred rite that signifies purification, initiation, or identification of an individual
with a leader, group or teaching." (Thomas Nelson Edition of the New King James Version
Study Bible)
The Gospels teach that John the Baptist was the messenger sent by God to prepare people for the
coming of the Messiah (Jesus). People came to John confessing their sins and their baptism was
a sign of their desire to turn from sin and live righteous lives.

Jesus was not being baptized because of his sin. Many consider this a ceremonial baptism
consecrating him to his ministry.

"At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As
Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending
on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: 'You are my Son, whom I love; with you I
am well pleased.'" (Mark 1:9-11)

10. According to Mark 5:22, when Jairus saw Jesus, what's the first thing he did?

Answer: Fell at Jesus' feet.

The correct answer is that he fell at Jesus' feet. It's apparent Jairus wanted Jesus to help and
would do whatever it took to get his attention. This must have been unusual for such a
distinguished person.
