Exercise: MY WAY OF LEADING

QUESTIONS:
1. Impact. Who are the influencers (leaders) who had a positive (or, in some
cases, negative impact on your life? What did you learn from these people
about leadership?

The influencers (leaders) who had a positive impact in my life are my

parents because they have set a good example to us. They have built our
family relationship strong and intact. I believe that as parents, they
possess the traits of a good leader, thus they are able to lead us – their
children in a good manner. I have learned from them these traits:
patience, empathy, discipline, and sense of humor among others. As
parents to us, they ensure that they act as a mentor, teach us
accountability and that every person deserves respect. These are just a
few of the pillars of servant leadership, likewise, only a few of
responsibilities as a parents. Thus, I believe that they are equally
important to instill in a team as a leader. .

2. Personal Mission. Why are you here on earth?

I honestly believe that every person in this earth (world) has a purpose
from God to be fulfilled. My personal mission is hopefully to be a good
servant of God and be an example to the people around me by doing
good works that are pleasing to the eye of God. Moreover, apply all the
good traits I had adopted from my parents and the people close to me, so
that, if time permits, I can be a good leader of any groups/team or even in
the community.

3. Personal Vision. What do you want to create in this world?

I am looking forward that this world my find peace, happiness and

contentment. To have a God-fearing world where there is no hate but only
love to all people, animal and nature. Additionally, for the people to obey
the laws and have discipline among themselves.
4. Philosophy. What is your view of the worlds in which you, as a leader, live?
What should a highly effective leader focus on given this world view? What
are your beliefs about leading people? What are your core values?

I view the world which I live as a world with peace and contentment.
Discipline should be the focus of this view, if everyone is discipline
enough, knows the right and wrong doings and have faith and follow the
rules/ laws then this kind of world can be at peace and contentment.

My beliefs about leading people is that, being a good leader is likewise a

good follower, before you become a leader you must know how to follow.
Good followers have the ability to view others leaders in their own way,
and this helps us in knowing what to do when we eventually become a
leader in of any team. The purpose of leadership is not to have people
around us cater our need. It is about finding out the potential of the team
and doing the best to maximize these potentials as you seek to achieve a
common goal.

The most important core value of being a leader is that we must be

respectful and have integrity. As demonstrated by self-respect and
respecting others regardless of differences; treating others with dignity,
empathy and compassion; and the ability to earn the respect of others.
Likewise, Integrity as demonstrated by moral courage, ethical strength,
and trustworthiness; keeping promises and fulfilling expectations.
5. Strengths. As a highly effective leader, what attributes (character and
competencies) do you possess? What best practices do you perform?
Even though this seems obvious, communication skills are considered by
most to be the most important quality of a good leader. The good leader
needs to possess this essential skill in order to be able to achieve his/her
ultimate objective and I believe I have this skills.
Good communication skills allow the good leader to be a better negotiator
and conflict manager. Being able to effectively explain the circumstance
and justify the decision taken not only makes team members feel more
comfortable with the decision, but also view their leader as being more
credible.
Aside from this, having honesty and integrity. Honesty and integrity
are two important ingredients which make a good leader. How can you
expect your followers to be honest when you lack these qualities yourself?
Leaders succeed when they stick to their values and core beliefs and
without ethics, this will not be possible.
6. Goals. As a highly effective leader, what results would you like to see 6
years from now in your work unit/ agency? What other attributes should
you acquire and developed in yourself?

I hope and pray that in 6 years from now, the office (unit/ agency) where I
belong today would continuously care for his employees, whoever took
over in the position. To know how to developed and empower the human
capital. Providing all the resources and support needed to achieve the
objective.

Additionally, leaders to know what they value. They also recognize

the importance of ethical behavior because I believed that the best
leaders exhibit both their core values and their ethics in their
leadership style and actions. Leadership ethics and values should
be visible because you live them in your actions every single day.
Lastly, for myself, I want to develop my confidence because accordingly to
be an effective leader, you should be confident enough to ensure that
other follow your commands. If you are unsure about your own decisions
and qualities, then your subordinates will never follow you.

As a leader, you have to be oozing with confidence, show some swagger

and assertiveness to gain the respect of your subordinates. This does not
mean that you should be overconfident, but you should at least reflect the
degree of confidence required to ensure that your followers trust you as a
leader.
EXERCISE: MY WAY OF LEADING – ESSAY
Today, citizens have access to a wide array of products and services delivered
consistently with a high level of service from the private sector, and they expect a similar
level of service from the government. But too often, citizens experience high levels of
inconvenience, inaccurate information and inconsistent delivery of services when
dealing with government services, leading to low levels of satisfaction and confidence.
Governments need to deliver services accurately, quickly, consistently, timely, and
securely with the convenience of anytime and anywhere with increased delivery options.
And, of course, with a smile and a minimal cost. We should set aside our personal
interest to give the citizen the good quality of public service. With this objective in mind,
as a simple government employee we can create and sustain a culture of excellent
performance, social responsibility/accountability and enjoyable service to the people in
all the national and local governments.
All of these things must start within ourselves, we need to be honest and transparent in
all our dealings. We should be accountable and have a strong integrity towards our
work. We can be a good example to our co-worker if we are exercising this kind of traits.
By doing so, they may treat us a leader in a sense of doing good works to people not
just because of holding a certain position.
Being a good leader is not just about being in a position, everyone can lead and
together reach a certain goal. Team work and good communication is the key.
