Objectives of the Laboratory :

Digital Signal processing techniques improve signal quality or extract important information by removing
unwanted part of the signal. This Digital Signal Processing Laboratory will help the students to learn the basic signal
processing operations using MATLAB. Writing Matlab scripts enhance the students programming and debugging
skills by using help file available in the said software. Apart from this students were made to perform programming
with DSP processor TMS320C50. The objectives of experiments of Digital Signal Processing laboratory are as
follows:
The students should be made to:
 To get familiar with m files. Create different types of m files on MATLAB and analyze them.
 Generate basic signals. Initially, individual signals were plotted. Then all signals are plotted in one figure.
Students were advised to read help files carefully and made to practice all basic commands.
 Perform Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of a given signal and plot its magnitude and phase response.
 Perform linear and circular convolution of two discrete time signals.
 Perform sampling of a signal and identify the effect of aliasing.
 Design and simulate FIR filters using various windows and frequency response method. Low pass, High
pass, Band pass and Band stop filter responses are obtained.
 Design and simulate chebychev and Butterworth filters (Low pass, High pass, Band pass and Band stop
filters) and analyze their responses on Matlab.
 Perform multi-rate processing of signals such as decimation and interpolation.
 Perform equalization of signals.
 Study the architecture and addressing modes of TMS320C50 Digital Signal Processor.
 Implement IIR and FIR filters and observe their output response.
 Perform linear and circular convolution by programming DSP processor.
 Implement Fast Fourier transform.
 Generate basic signals waveforms.
 Learn about finite word length effects.
The Purpose of laboratory:

Digital Signal Processing accounts for a substantial proportion of the world market for electronic devices. And
therefore, the leading electronics manufacturers have invested heavily in DSP technology. This lab introduces
students to DSP design and analysis techniques that are core knowledge for DSP engineers, and which serve as solid
grounding for advanced level work in DSP. The main purpose of the Digital Signal Processing Laboratory is to
create interest in the Digital Signal Processing field, which has high carrier prospect.

 To get familiar with the MATLAB working environment. Use the help system to study basic MATLAB
commands and syntax. Declare and process matrices. Simple plot commands.
 The facilities available in the lab provide excellent opportunities to the undergraduate students to enhance
their understanding of DSP concepts by performing experiments and working on various projects.
 Students are made to practice with more signal processing operations to get familiarity in using Matlab
software.
 Students (both UG and PG) are motivated to do their final year projects in Digital Signal processing and Digital
Image Processing area.
