ROLANDO C. TIMBANG
School Principal
I. Introduction

The K to 12 Program covers kindergarten

and 12 years of basic education ( six years
of primary education, four years of Junior
High School, and two years of Senior High
School (SHS)) to provide sufficient time for
mastery of concepts and skills, develop
lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for
tertiary education, middle level skills
development, and entrepreneurship.
The new program seeks to encompass the
goals of the basic secondary education
system by which the additional years will
result to better-educated, more competitive
and employable graduates.
In DepEd Order No. 36 s. 2012, Sec.
Armin Luistro stated that the introduction of
additional two years of Senior High School
(Grade 11 and Grade 12) is a major
deliverable undertaking under K to 12 basic
education program which ultimately seeks to
prepare the learners in their entry to higher
education and equip them with relevant and
globally competitive skills which will foster
employability and entrepreneurship.
Prior to the full implementation of the Senior
High School (SHS) Program every school has been
mandated to prepare a transition plan in order to
prepare the necessary technical, academic, and
human resource requirements before the full
implementation of the curriculum takes place.
Sogod National High School has been a
recipient of the SEDIP Building Program so that it
is equipped with viable physical facilities, such as
the Home Economics building with furniture,
Science Laboratory building with Science
equipment, two-storey buildings with 12 rooms, 12
comfort rooms, Industrial Arts building with
complete furniture, a library with textbooks,
multi-cab for instructional purposes, high-speed
machine for Garments Technology and welding
machine for metal craft.
Sogod National High School is fortunate to
have in its roster six (6) NC2 holders, twenty
(20) Master Degree holders to cater the basic
needs of learners towards the K to 12 Senior
High Modeling Program.
The school strongly believes that the
equipment and facilities provided by SEDIP
and the PTA, the teachers’ educational
qualifications and business partners will
contribute much to the better achievement
and performance of the students for the
school to truly realize the Senior High School
Modeling Program.
II. Objectives
1. To equip the students with the necessary
skills needed by the labor market.
2. To improve the meta-cognitive competencies
and skills (learning to know; learning to do;
learning to live together; and learning to be.)
among students in the core subjects such as
English, Filipino, Science and Mathematics.
3. To provide a variety of options relevant to the
students’ area of interests for specialization
aligned to the graduates’ potential job
opportunities.
4. Allow graduates to acquire middle-level skills
and offer them better opportunities to be
gainfully employed or become entrepreneurs.

Sogod is strategically located at the
mouth of Sogod Bay. It is the coastal
center of Southern Leyte. Boundaries to
the west are Hilongos, Hindang and
Inopacan municipalities all from the
province of Leyte. To the south are
Bontoc, Tomas Oppus, Malitbog, Padre
Burgos, Libagon and the municipalities of
Panaon Island. To the east are the Pacific
towns of Saint Bernard and Silago. To the
north is the municipality of Mahaplag,
Leyte.
Approximately, 65% of the land area
of 19,270 hectares is within the 15%
slope limit. Physically, its topography
ranges from being level or near level to
gently rolling. The remaining 35% is
characterized as very strongly sloping,
steeply sloping and very steep. This
provides a potent site for development
in trade and commerce, industry, agro –
industrial infrastructures and housing
project.
As it is being cuddled right in its current
and vibrant socio-economic stratum, Sogod
has revolutionized from a struggling third
class municipality to a first class local
economic zone where potential hotel and
food industries, malls and energy resource
distributorship can imminently mushroom
in no time. The proliferation of internet
hubs along the key locations around the
town provides fast and easy access to global
information technology and communication
markets which will easily lay out a wide
open space for the availability of essential
services catering the skills and curricular
needs of the Senior High School Modeling
Program in the municipality.

1. The proposed Senior High School (SHS) is based
on the availability of learning facilities the school
has.
2. It is also based on market demand and
employability of graduates with entrepreneurial
potentials.
3. The curriculum is also suited to the existence of
local industries in the community as partners
relative to students’ needs when they undergo the
on-the-job training (OJT) or immersion which may
include earn-while-you-learn opportunities and
provide them relevant exposure and actual
experience in their chosen career.
4. Curriculum Development in Consultation with:
a. Commission Higher Education (CHED)
b. Technical Education Skills Development
Authority (TESDA)
c. Industry/Business Partners
5. Conduct consultative meetings for refinement of the
proposed curriculum.
6. Preparation of the Memorandum of Agreement and
the Memorandum of Understanding between the
school and its partners (CHED, TESDA)
Industry/Business Partners) including local colleges
and universities.
7. Advocacy and presentation of the program to the
parents.
8. Submission of the proposal to the Schools Division
Superintendent for approval.
9. Launching of the Senior High School Curriculum.

Sogod National High School provides
ample human and physical resources which
complement each other in the delivery of
services to the clientele by equally sourcing out
necessary participation and relevant
contribution from its socio-economic
environments.
The 19 Masters Degree holders and six NC2
passers in its roster can sufficiently warrant
the academic inputs and skills training needed
to fulfill the curricular requirements of the
Open High School Modeling Program.
The availability of multi-sectored local
business and industrial establishments
around the municipal and territorial
landscapes of Sogod, which fairly
accommodates student trainees during their
On-the-Job exercises, generates an extra
dimension for actual and experiential job
hands-on process.
All things being considered, the curricular
offerings of the Open High School Modeling
Program at Sogod National High School
presents a feasible curricular agenda outlining
the core objectives of the K to 12 basic
education program and translating all the
concepts and policies of basic education into
tangible possibilities of global competitiveness,
employability and entrepreneurship.
Putting all these components in perspective,
the Senior High School Modeling Program at
Sogod National High School will potentially set
the norm in the viable implementation of the
curriculum among its co-implementers in the
region.
