Nyathi Bush and River Break camp tragedy GDE investigation - Gauteng MEC for Education
announces GDE report findings.
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, addressed the school
parent body on Wednesday evening 4 March 2020 to report back in detail about the findings received from
Harris Nupen Molebatsi Inc (HNM). HNM were appointed to investigate the Nyathi Bush and River Break
camp tragedy on behalf of the GDE.
The School Governing Body (SGB) of Parktown Boys High School welcomes this development.
The SGB will now review in detail the 61-page executive summary of the report findings; it will also request
a full copy of the report given the serious implications of any findings in the report. The SGB requests the
space and time to do so thoroughly as this is predominantly a volunteer body. The SGB will further engage
and update parents as soon as possible as to the next steps and action to be taken, as well as remaining in
communication with the GDE.
The SGB and the school has pledged its absolute support and commitment to the GDE and the South
African Police Service (SAPS) investigations into the tragedy at the Nyathi Bush and River Break camp.
The school is still a place of mourning and we are singularly focussed on supporting our boys, our staff, the
teachers and the Mpianzi family. The school requests of the media and protestors that while the school
respects the right to report and protest outside of the school grounds, it should be done so peacefully and
respectfully so as not to further traumatise our boys and staff.
We remain utterly committed to ensuring Enock and the Mpianzi family receive the justice they deserve.
