A planet is an astronomical body orbiting a star or stellar remnant that is massive enough to

be rounded by its own gravity, is not massive enough to cause thermonuclear fusion, and
has cleared its neighbouring region of planetesimal.

The eight known planets of the Solar System:

A. Terrestrial Planet
- made up of rocks and minerals
- looks like/resembles the earth

1. Mercury - is the smallest and innermost planet in the Solar System.

- very hot, rotate around the sun every 88 days.

2. Venus - is the 2nd planet from the Sun.

- hottest,2nd brightest
- slowly rotate in opposite direction

3. Earth - is the 3rd planet from the Sun and the only astronomical object known to harbor
life.
- with light and H2o, our home

4. Mars - is the 4th planet from the Sun and the 2nd-smallest planet
- red planet , 3rd brightest object
- very thin atmosphere, w/2 satelites

B. Jovian Planet
- gaseous planets

5. Jupiter - is the 5th and the largest planet

- 4th brightest, ball dense of gas

6. Saturn - is the 6th planet and the 2 nd largest in the Solar System.
- w/spectacular rings

7. Uranus - is the 7th planet from the Sun, most rock and H2o. w/helium and hydrogen
- rotate 90degree from the plane of its orbit

8. Neptune - is the 8th planet , 4th largest , mostly rock and H2o.
- w/helium and hydrogen . w/5 rings and 8 unknown moon

• Meteors, also known as shooting stars, are pieces of dust and debris from space that burn
up in Earth's atmosphere where they can create bright streaks across the night sky.
The many streaks of light in the sky are known as a meteor shower. If a meteor makes it to
Earth it's known as a meteorite. Before they hit atmosphere the objects are called
meteoroids.

• Asteroids are minor planets, especially of the inner Solar System. Larger asteroids have
also been called planetoids.Asteroids are small, dusty objects that orbit the sun.
