Using the Coolant Flow vs External Restriction Information

The plots below illustrate Coolant flow vs. External restriction. The first plot illustrates coolant flow to the radiator for various restriction radiator packages. The second plot is the same data plotted by rpm.

The data can be used to predict radiator coolant flow rates for a given restriction cooling package. The data can also be used when troubleshooting by measuring engine outlet and engine inlet pressures to estimate flow rate.

This data was generated with a fully open stat, 50/50 E.G./Water mix, without a pressure cap, no cab heater flow, no air compressor option, and closed DEF tank heater SOV.

Notes: Restrictions across multiple turbo compressor mounting configuration options are similar enough to cause no significant impact on external restriction, accessory flow, TK flow, and SCR circuit flows.
All plots in this document were generated from data collected with a HMRO turbo compressor installed.

Revision 1 - 01/11/18. This data represents Beta.

Using the Accessory Flow Information
The plots below illustrate available coolant flow through the accessory ports.

The plots were generated by plumbing the accessory port flow through the available fittings, an adjustable valve, a section of hose, a flow meter, and returned to the water pump inlet tube.

Actual accessory flows will depend on individual installation line sizes, cooler restriction, fitting restrictions, etc. However, plots provide a design indication of coolant flow available for accessories such as manual transmission
coolers, cab heaters, etc.

This data was generated with both fully open and fully closed stat, with 50/50 E.G./Water mix, without a pressure cap, no air compressor option, with cab heater flow, and open DEF tank heater SOV.

Notes: Restrictions across multiple turbo compressor mounting configuration options are similar enough to cause no significant impact on external restriction, accessory flow, TK flow, and SCR circuit flows.
All plots in this document were generated from data collected with a HMRO turbo compressor installed.

Using the TK Bypass Flow Plots
The plots below illustrate available coolant flow through the various TK options; these were generaed by plumbing TK bypass flow through the available fittings, a section of hose, a flowmeter, and Y'd back into the engine water return line.

Actual torque converter cooler flows will depend on individual installation line sizes, cooler restriction, fitting restrictions, etc. However, plots provide a design indication of coolant flow available per thermostat modulation
for torque converter cooling.

This data was generated with various thermostat travel settings ranging from fully closed to fully open, with 50/50 E.G./Water mix, without a pressure cap, no cab heater flow, no air compressor option, and open DEF tank heater SOV.

Notes: Restrictions across multiple turbo compressor mounting configuration options are similar enough to cause no significant impact on external restriction, accessory flow, TK flow, and SCR circuit flows.
All plots in this document were generated from data collected with a HMRO turbo compressor installed.

Using the Urea Tank and Doser Flow Information
The plots below illustrate coolant flow through the urea curcuit when plumbed according to the plumbing diagram and maximum line length requirements listed in AEB 21.112.

The plots were generated by plumbing to the urea circuit supply pressure port and measuring the flow in the circuit.

Actual urea circuit flow may vary if deviating from the plumbing diagram illustrated in the AEB.

These plots should provide a design indication of coolant flow to assist in DEF tank heater sizing.

Revision 1 - 01/11/18. This data represents Beta.

Using the Pressure table
The tables below illustrates representative system pressures that can be used when troubleshooting cooling system issues.

This data is generated with both a fully open stat and a fully closed stat, 50/50 E.G./Water mix, without a pressure cap, no cab heater flow, no air compressor option, and closed DEF tank heater SOV.

Notes: Restrictions across multiple turbo compressor mounting configuration options are similar enough to cause no significant impact on external restriction, accessory flow, TK flow, and SCR circuit flows.
All plots in this document were generated from data collected with a HMRO turbo compressor installed.
