The book entitled Daily Splashes of Joy 365 Gems to Sparkle Your Day
is written by Barbara Johnson. Mrs. Johnson is a strong Christian woman who
wrote a lot of books including this book that is based on her daily
experiences in life, which made her to be contented and grateful of the life
she had. She is a popular conference speaker and was voted as the
“Celebrity Mom of the Year” in 1996 and also known as the Queen of
Encouragement. Her books have comforted millions of women that brought
them hope and humor in times of distress and devastating situations. She
has also seen how a simple message of hope could uplift a life that is left in
latters. This book “Daily Splashes of Joy” is a devotional book consisting of
the 365 days in a year is filled with stories that could lighten up souls, minds
and hearts every day. Joy and laughter are the main foci of this book and
according to the book, putting and letting the Lord enter our lives could
possibly result on building a strong relationship with him. The purpose of this
book is to let individuals learn on how to accept things, smile through the
hardship, laugh on the situation and build strong relationship towards others
even and most especially to the Lord, though it is not easy especially when
problems have embraced someone’s life tightly.

Daily Splashes of Joy do have a lot of interesting quotes, bible verses,

heart-warming stories, jokes, witty cartoons and heart-ache survival
strategies. In every page and days present in the book, there are lots of new
learning’s that could help someone fall into deep realizations and change the
way of thinking from being a pessimist into an optimist type of person. It was
also mentioned in the book how humor played a great role on individuals
because it could remove anxiety, worries and stress in a person. Another
thing that was mentioned in the book is how to keep a relationship even
stronger for married couples and in friends. The author is good-natured
enough to share her life experiences that could also change the perspective
of the readers especially to those who have lost hopes and light in their lives.
She was able to give enlightenment to those individuals filled with darkness
and individuals where hatred overpowered themselves due to many
responsibilities, financial problems, arguments and such types of challenges.
The most attractive and catchy part of the book were the quotes written
below every stories of each page because it gives hope and chance in
someone to live the best out of their lives. Inside this book are stories that
are dedicated to all: families, friends, parents, spouses, men and women.
The good thing in this book is that it could inspire every person to stay
positive despite the struggles and challenges being faced. The book consists
of meaningful messages that could light up the mood of every individual. It
also splashes joy that can soothe tormented hearts with the love and grace
of the Lord. The book also mentioned that pain is inevitable but being joyful
is one of the weapons to win the battle. The author thus is full of wisdom and
positive thoughts in life. She is capable of removing negativities out in the
life of an individual through this book. Upon reading this book, it could make
everyone figure out that all is blessed to be a blessing that all problems can
be forgotten when laughing and being joyful is applied.

However, in the book, some words, phrases, and sentences those is

written in it especially the quotes, were delivered frankly by the author, and
were heavy at some point, were unpleasant to the eyes. This sentence can
be found in the book “Learn from your parent’s mistakes, use birth control.”
The construction of words is not appropriate. It might be direct to the point,
but the usage of those words is rough. The author also emphasizes death,
how love is a curse, how men destroy women, and a lot more harrowing
words. It might be at some point a fact, but the use of words should not be
that oppressive and excruciating because it could somehow affect the entire
message of the book. Though it cannot be avoided and yet it can be
lessened. There are also some content in the book that cannot be easily
understood and some stories were hanging and you cannot get the idea of
the author. The illustrations present in some pages of the book do not fit the
message and it is overrated. The quotes present in every page often do not
suit the stories that were narrated.

Those heavy words, phrases or sentences present in the book cannot

be avoided because all of us are capable of judging and critiquing without
even knowing that the words being used have gone farther on where it must
be. However, there are still words that can be used in a much better way
wherein the thought is still there, the point and idea of the message can still
be conveyed correctly. In terms of the content, be specific and use words
that could easily be understood by the readers because complex words could
bring confusion and it is time consuming for the reason that some of the
readers will read it again and again until they get the point. Some also would
lose their interest in reading the book due to it. They would end up finishing
the book with some doubts and unexplained thoughts.

Another issue is the illustrations. When readers would scan the book, they
could really see that some of the illustrations are overrated and do not suit
the idea of the message written below it some are still confusing. Upon that
it is better if illustrations are just present when it is really needed especially
on the confusing part of the book so that the reader would understand it
even more or just put the illustrations when the message should be
emphasize, has a great impact, and is very significant. In addition, always
connect the quotes to the stories. But there are also a lot of ways on how to
improve in writing the book and it is much better if the improvement made
could really mark the minds of the readers after they had read the book.
Stay blessed every day! Do not forget to smile and spread your laugh to
others no matter how hard the situation is!
