Phileas Fogg

Phileas Fogg is a theatre company. There are more people and they give
lessons to people of TTO-classes. They come from England, so they don’t speak
Dutch. They learned us new words, and also some theatre skills. Words like
chimney and carriage. I didn’t actually learned new words, but grammar. Two
of them came to us, not all. Their names were Alexa and Ben. I had lessons
from Alexa.

Work method
First we needed to run to the podium while we were yelling. Then the teachers
explained how it works. We were separated into two groups. I was in group 1.
Group 1 went to the left of the atrium, Group 2 to the right. They explained
with a lot of gesture and signs, so it wasn’t that hard to understand them.

Story line of play

The workshop was about children in the Victorian time. They were very poor,
so we had to play that. At first, three of the ten children in my group had a role.
A good girl, a bad boy and a chicken (it wasn’t actually a chicken, but that’s the
only thing he had to do). First the good girl give the right answer on the
madame’s question, then the bad boy had to answer, but he didn’t know it.
The third person (the chicken) helped him by doing like a chicken. But the bad
boy was stupid and didn’t understand. At the end of this part, he was smashed
by the teacher (not really).
In the second part (because there were four parts) it was my turn. I wanted to
eat a rat that I found on the streets, but a big girl (the teacher again) picked it
from me. Also, two children had to search for poo, but they forgot their tools,
so they didn’t do anything. Two other people collect the poo, and did ‘poo
catching’. Then the boss came and give us some exercises to do.
The third part wasn’t that special. We were little baggers and had to get food
and money from rich people. At the end, someone lost his eyes.
The fourth and last part was about the mines. We had to work in the coal
mines and I was a door (very special!). At the end, there was a fire in the mine
and someone saved us.
I don’t know very well how the other group did it, but I will describe in as good
as I can.
The other group was poor. At the beginning, one died in the sewer. As second,
they had to wake up and clean the chimney. In the chimney, one died. Then,
someone escaped from a kind of prison but was catch and used as a slave. At
the end, they had to work with machines and someone that was under it died.
A woman wanted to save the other child, but on the carriage also that child
died.

In conclusion: my opinion
It was weird to make a whole show in two hours time, but we did it. It was also
very funny, because there were a lot of jokes and the chicken (from part one)
had to do something very stupid. It was also a little bit scary, because the story
that we played, was how it was real in that time.
Alexa and Ben were good teachers. At the beginning, they look horrible, but
later, they were fantastic. It wasn’t hard to understand and if something went
wrong, they fixed it in a funny way.
