CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES
Poverty today affects millions of people around the world bringing many
consequences, especially in developing countries, which can be caused by different
factors at a different rate or impact.
For example, limited access to safe drinking water or healthy food affects around
2000 million people who, for different reasons such as the state of their home or
other factors, cannot have water and therefore develop health problems. Domestic
violence is another factor that affects millions of people, around 1000, especially
children who are forced to leave home and not receive a decent education. On the
other hand, the lack of resources to obtain a good home that affects approximately
900 million people means that they have to move to unsafe places and where there
is no decent quality of life. Also, health problems affect the quality of life of people
becoming unemployed and therefore falling into poverty. Likewise, economic
insecurity plays a fundamental role in the lives of millions of people, almost 300
million, since depending on the economic and labor situation that is happening
there is a risk of unemployment and therefore of poverty. Finally, it is very
important to highlight the education in all of these causes. Around 200 million
children do not have a decent education which means that years later they have no
experience in the labor field and therefore do not have a stable income for their
family.
The above, are the possible causes of poverty around the world that in turn can
bring different consequences at different scales. First, exposure to violence can be
generated in approximately 1400 million people because they are economically
unstable. Food safety also plays an important role since many people, around 900
million, do not have enough resources to have food leading to other problems such
as malnutrition. Likewise, many health problems can be generated today it is not
known exactly how many people are affected by poverty-related diseases but it is
estimated that they are around 700 to 1 billion people, some diseases can be AIDs,
circulatory problems, respiratory problems among others. I could also generate
mental problems such as depression or anxiety especially in adolescents,
approximately 6 million of them. In turn, poverty generates a rise in crime rates in
society as people with limited resources have to resort to other livelihoods such as
stealing, prostitution, etc. Even in juvenile crime there has been an increase in the
poorest countries, it is estimated that around 150 million children are criminals at
an early age. Finally, poverty can lead to many people becoming homeless and
living on the streets. Children are the most affected, around 1.6 million people are
affected worldwide.
Although there are many causes and consequences of poverty, it is not possible to
find them in figures, so it remains a problem since it affects around 600 million
people more or less.

Summary
The lack of accompaniment or the lack of a family towards a child can have several
consequences in the cognitive and emotional development of the child, this caused
by different reasons, whether economic or psychological. The above is also linked
to homeless child and youth which is also a problem that is increasing nowadays
that may be contributed by different causes or factors that may led to bigger
problems or consequences such as poverty.
Some factors that contribute to the fact that children, approximately 1.5 million
children, do not have a home are several, such as: the lack of resources to obtain
their own home, since many families cannot obtain resources due to the issue of
overdrafts and inflation. Economic insecurity also plays a very important role
because many families do not have a stable income this may be caused by
unemployment. Likewise, domestic violence mostly affects children and mothers
head of household, the vast majority of mothers, 80 percent approximately, have
experienced some type of violence in their homes which also leads to traumatic
experiences and other types of psychological problems. There are also risks when
children are exposed to violence such as contributing to generate behavioral
problems, such as depression, emotional instability, among many others.
Some consequences are: food insecurity associated with homelessness has an
impact on the health of children living in homeless families, as well as
unaccompanied youth. According to a small sample, there is an small risk to have
health problems, such as overweight and obesity which are frequent among
children. Children living in homeless families and unaccompanied youth also have
a higher risk of experiencing mental health problems, compared to their
accommodated partners. Also, the residential stability of the family is highly
associated with the educational success of children , on the contrary, homelessness
contributes to poor educational outcomes for children. Homeless children and
youth are significantly more likely to report grade retention than their
counterparts who have never been homeless. At all age levels, homelessness affects
the academic performance and the reading, spelling and math scores of homeless
children are more often below grade level, compared to accommodated children.
