PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Ass 1: Prepare an Executive Summary for the following project proposal: REPLACEMENT OF THE DRY
CHEMICAL POWDER SYSTEM WITH A MYSTIFIED WATER SYSTEM ON THE POLYPROPYLENE
PLANT

Ass 2: Prepare an agenda for a “Design Group Meeting”.

Ass 3:

1. Prepare a risk register for the Construction of the new Adelaide Airport Terminal. The risk register must
include the following: The following risk: Contamination of the aircraft refueling pipelines. The risk event
categories. The risks associated with the categories. The risk scores. The mitigation and contingency
responses for each event. (5)
2. Prepare a Risk Analysis for this project. Using a 2x2 Impact and Probability matrix, assess the risks
identified in your risk register. First evaluate the impact of the risk event on the project objectives. Then,
with the risks identified as "high” impact, assess the probability of the risk event. Perform a comparative
risk rating on the "high-high" risk events to prioritize these risk events. Indicate the order of priority for the
risk events. (5)

Ass 4:

1. Name the processes used in Project Management and briefly describe each one.
2. Project: The new Sydney Intercity Trains
The new intercity trains are too wide for the rail line to stations in Blue Mountains”. An article published in
The Sydney Morning Herald
By Matt O'Sullivan. Updated 6 October 2016 — 1:52pm first published 5 October 2016 — 4:52pm.

mountains-20161005-grvmns.html
Read the article and the state what process and element were not followed by the NSW Transport
Department when this project was initiated. Briefly describe the element and indicate what impact not
following this element will have on the cost and schedule of the project.

Ass 5: Project: Relocation of the Arthritis SA office into the renovated premises.

1. What organisation structure did the President of the Board (Sponsor) set up to handle this project.
2. For each position, in your project organisation, describe briefly their roles and responsibilities.

PROJECT SAFETY ASSIGNMENT

Ass 1: Customise HAZOP Report Template and issue as a working draft Identify HAZOP team & roles Define
project scope Select HAZOP Guide Words Populate general background section with learnings from Quiz done in
the workshop Populate Reference Section HAZID One submission per group.

Ass 2: Presentation & documentation of proposed Design Mods (just needs to be "fit-for-purpose")

 Include red line mark-ups of documentation, together with

 Any additional explanatory data and narrative and record as attachments to HAZOP MoM
 Will eventually form part of completed HAZOP Report (next week)

Customise HAZOP Minutes Template and issue as a working draft (will get completed next week)

 Divide system under review into parts if deemed warranted or helpful (choice)
 For each selected part define clearly the start and end points, stating key items included and specific
exclusions (if any)
 For each selected part define the design intent
 Use HAZOP Guide Words selected from last week to systematically consider credible deviations from the
design intent that lead to consequences of significance (e.g. loss of containment, equipment damage,
serious quality excursion etc.).
 Record in the MoM the cause and consequence of the deviation
 Identify what (if any) means are provided in the design presented (existing or new) for detection/indication
of the deviation
 Note the presence (if any) in the design presented (existing or new) of protective safeguards (e.g. active
controls, alarms, trips etc.)
 Decide if the level of detection and protection provided is adequate
 If yes record a finding stating such like, "Safeguards Adequate", "No Action" etc.
 If not then consider what design changes and/or additions are needed to rectify, record as an action and
assign to the appropriate team member.
 Repeat for each part of the system (if more than 1) One submission per group. All submissions via MyUni

Ass 3:

 Complete HAZOP Study started in Week 2, recording findings onto working copy of HAZOP Minutes
(using template provided
 Discuss actions arising if design deficiencies identified
 Assess and explain the quality of the HAZOP process for your group
 Prepare HAZOP Report (using template provided, and started in Week 1)
 Undertake peer review, complete and submit spreadsheet (using template provided)

Final report prepared by group, together with their peer review (1 for each group) to assess and allocate %
effort/contribution of each group member to the final report. Individual mark = group mark x % effort from peer
review.

Ass 4:

PSV sizing exercise using spreadsheet template provided.

Fire case over-pressure protection for a LPG Storage Bullet

Ass 5:

LPG Storage Bullet Explosion using LPG Bullet from Week 3) – Blast Over-Pressure and Fire ball radiation
estimation

Estimation of time between fire commencing and on-set of vessel failure

Determination of safe distance between LPG Storage and Occupied Facilities (e.g. Control Room)

SUSTAINABILITY ASSIGNMENT

Assessment task
Review several examples of corporate sustainability reporting. Critique each of the examples based on what you
know about the characteristics of excellent corporate reporting. Evaluate company performance based on the
information available; provide insights into performance relative to their peers, and overall quality of their
sustainability reporting.

Utilise sustainability reports and related, publicly available sustainability reporting data for four companies:

Origin – 2018
Beach Energy – 2018

Woodside – 2018

Santos – 2018

Assignment: Prepare a report assessing the sustainability performance of these 4 companies, based on publicly
available data – latest available should be 2018. Your report should include:

1. Introduction to the assessment and approach taken to evaluate company performance

2. A table outlining presence of various disclosures for each organisation, such as:
 Materiality assessment
 Discussion on management approach
 Reporting boundary
 GRI content index
 Use of IPIECA guidance
 Performance data
 Reference to Sustainable Development Goals
 Anti-corruption
 EITI (explain what this is, and why it’s important)
 Human Rights position
 Climate Change risks and reporting
 Assurance (i.e. has the information presented been independently assured?)
3. An analysis of each company’s sustainability reporting performance, in the context of the assessed subset.
You may choose to focus on a subset of key areas, and/or changes in reporting focus over time for a
particular company, however your analysis must critique each of the (4) companies in some detail.

Points will be awarded for (see marking rubric below):

 Comparative assessment of company sustainability performance – completeness, accuracy
 Quality of the critique of each company’s performance, both individually and in relation to the
group assessed
 Unique observations based on interpretation of available data
 Concise, accurate, grammatically correct evaluation reports
4. You may need to look beyond a single Sustainability Report or similar source for some of the above
disclosures, and to assess the overall sustainability performance of each company.
