Question:

What can the company do to meet increased customer expectations on one hand, and still try to
earn profits on a high cost recycled material?

Customer Expectation:
These are ideas and feelings of customers before using a product or service and the anticipated
satisfaction of a need. Customers have different types of expectations from products and
management requires an in-depth understanding of the experience of customers in using their
products.

Answer and Explanation:

The cost of recycling is high, but recycling companies should always strive to provide quality
products that meet the needs of their customers. The following are ways of meeting customer
expectation:

1. Understanding and learning the needs and interests of customers. Recycling companies
should research customers to determine factors that make them chose recycled products
over new products.
2. Making products that reach the right and specific buyers. This is seen by repeat purchases
and demand for particular products.
3. Creating new ideas and ways to meet the need of customers and improve their lives as they
use new products.
4. Incorporate the needs and views of customers while developing the products. Decisions and
products made by the company have the user in mind hence meeting their expectations.
5. Regular collection of feed

Question:
Illustrate, by a flow chart, how components of a mixture containing sawdust, iron fillings, small
stones, and table salt can be separated.

Designing an Experiment
The properties of each component must be considered when designing an experiment for the
separation of a mixture. The classic separation method in chemistry would be chromatography. This
is a methodology where chemical species travel through a mobile phase and stationary phase. The
affinity of a compound for the stationary phase slows down the compound which allows for the
separation to take place. This separation is based on the chemical properties of the mixture,
however, other properties can be used to separate a mixture if it is more appropriate.

Answer and Explanation:

The useful properties of the components of this mixture are
small stones: largest solid
iron fillings: magnetic
table salt: soluble in water
These properties can be exploited to separate the mixture as shown below
