Lighting Specifications
Overview
LAC’s lighting system consists of a mixture of fixed and mobile conventional fixtures spread across two advanced
bridges over the auditorium, a main Bridge, multiple fly bars over the stage, booms and catwalk rails. Most single‐lens
fixtures are mobile, but others are semi‐permanently rigged. De‐rigging or re‐positioning of any of these fixtures is only
possible at extra cost and at the discretion of the Technical Manager. Others are embedded in the Theatre’s structure
and not removable at all. Those integrated in the acoustic shell are one example.
Infrastructure
The Hall’s lighting infrastructure primarily consists of sACN over CAT. It runs throughout the auditorium and the stage
area. A number of discrete Ethernet cables are installed, so multiple transmission protocols can be used if necessary.
These runs congregate in the Dimmer room and are re‐distributed to various locations throughout the theatre via LSS
MasterPort2 boxes, Cisco routers and DMX repeaters. Various distribution nodes are available to simplify fixture
positioning. Input terminals are located in numerous locations within the auditorium and can be connected via Ethernet
or 5pin DMX. In addition, mobile PoE Output Boxes can be placed in various locations if needed.
Control inputs are available at the following positions:

Balcony (1st row)
Rear of Arena (Under Balcony)
Arena center

Circuits
All lighting circuits within the Auditorium are directly connected to an ETC Sensor3 main dimmer rack. There is no
physical patch bay. Circuits are located mostly on the 1st catwalk, the main bridge and the two bridges over the
auditorium. These circuits are available in either Socapex, 16A CEE or 32A CEE (1P+N+T) format outlets. Additional
circuits are available in the lateral balconies and the back of the auditorium.

This provides a total of 72 3Kw and 24 5Kw Circuits distributed on the 1st catwalk.
The Main Bridge houses an additional 36 3Kw and six 5kw circuits. Making the total circuits available on the first “floor”
to 108.

http://www.etcconnect.com/Products/Dimming‐Switching/Sensor‐Dimming/CEM3‐Power‐Control/Features.aspx
Circuit patch & Direct Power
Circuits located in the dimmer room can be patched individually via dedicated software or remotely via ETC consoles.
Currently, dimmers can not be used as “direct” power outlets for moving lights or any “switching power” electronics.
These are instead provided via dedicated 16, 32 and 63A power outlets located twice on each catwalk and multiple
other locations on stage.
Intelligent Fixtures
As of this writing, LAC possesses no intelligent lighting solutions. These will have to be rented externally at the
promoter’s cost.
Consoles
2x ETC Gio lighting desks are available.
These are configurable as master‐slave if needed
http://www.etcconnect.com/Products/Consoles/Eos‐Family/Gio/Features.aspx
Line Set / Fly Bars
A total of 56 motorized Fly Bars are available.
3 over the proscenium *
2 (2m bars) to the sides of the prosceniums *
3 after main curtain (very close, usually used for tulle, masking or other kind of screens)
48 behind the main curtain
No manual fly system is in place. These will have to be set‐up and rigged to the existing fly system.
Only LAC personnel is authorized to operate the computerized interface and create memories. For limited use,
supervised operation can be arranged.
All bars are between 16 and 16.5 meters long and have standard 48mm diameter.
Every catwalk and the main bridge have multiple 48mm rails that can accommodate additional fixtures.
!! Not all flybars are available at any given time. Some are reserved for the acoustic shell and/or resident productions!!
*These bars are not reachable once elevated to working height. We suggest using only with P/O equipped or motorized
fixtures. Both of witch are not provided by LAC.

Drive System
The fly system at LAC is driven via a BBH control
Interface. As a general rule, only LAC personnel may
operate the consoles. These command consoles
CAN NOT be interfaced or synchronized with DMX
or other protocols. Fly positions can be stored,
recalled, timed etc. But the system is not intended
to be used as a show controller in complex
productions.
More information about the interface can be found
at:
http://www.bbh‐systems.de/indexleft.htm
Booms
A total of 8 booms are offered.
They can accommodate up to 5 fixtures each. Last horizontal bar is 2.6m from floor. They are
mobile and therefore need to be screwed down for safety (Screwing or nailing over the Vinyl
dance‐floor is not allowed).
Floor Bases
A number of single‐fixture floor bases are available. Same rules apply as with Booms.
House Lights
House lights can be controlled via provided tablet.
Fixed dimming (6sec.) or ON/OFF are available for single zones or for entire venue.
As a general rule we ask to leave the stairs illuminated at 20% (preset) to help the audience avoid
injury.

Guest Mixing desks
Guest consoles can be placed in any of the aforementioned positions. IMPORTANT: It is not possible to place your own
multicore snake! This makes the use of the house patch unavoidable!
See patching section for details and contact the house manager to discuss alternative solutions.
PA System
The installed PA consists of 4x d&b Qi7 Per side, 2x d&b QiSub Per side, 8x d&b 4S (Distributed Front Fills), 4x d&b 8S
(Distributed Balcony Delay) and 4x d&b Max12 stage‐monitors
Optionally, four d&b 10S Full range speakers (pole‐mounted) can be installed for surround configuration.

Room Acoustics & Natural Reverb
The Auditorium’s reverberation time is around 2.2s
for a 60dB drop in SPL. The response was captured
with 500ms Pink noise burst at 96dB from main PA
(no front fills or balcony delay) and no weighting.
Analog I/O
Main signal transport is Digital (see below), but
extensive Analog patching is available. All four main
mixing positions are equipped with patch panels housing 64 XLR inputs and 16 XLR Outputs.
The main Analog (and Digital) patching is located Stage Left, where two 16ch stage boxes are usable for input
distribution, two more can be connected at Stage Right.
AD/DA
As with Analog, all mixing positions offer digital audio connectivity.
Main digital connectivity is offered via Open‐loop MADI, which can be connected individually to reach mix positions.
MADI is integrated in to the venue’s main Fiber‐Optic ring via Optocore DD4MR, DD2FX and DiGiCo Interfaces. The
MADI stream can be duplicated and remapped to multiple devices for recording or dual desk operation. Main AD/DA is
provided by Optocore x6R and v3R modules.

Guest Systems Interfacing
The installed Optocore devices (mainly the X6R and V3R converters) can be configured in “special mode”, thus allowing
Optocore enabled gear to control the pre‐amps remotely without the use of a preconfigured PC.
Soundcraft, LAWO, Yamaha and a growing number of other pro‐level audio equipment can be outfitted with
configurable Optocore I/O cards. DiGiCo desks (if equipped with Optocore ports) can natively control and re‐configure
Optocore devices without additional gear (from Software v2.11 up). Please contact the Technical Manager about your
required audio I/O and routing needs. The system installed at LAC is extremely flexible but also relatively complex and
pre‐configuration may require additional time.

In addition, If you choose to use your own stage‐boxes, 2x Standard RJ45, Cat6 connections and 4x Coaxial BNC
connections between Stage‐Left and mix position are pre‐installed.
Surround:
If necessary, various optional configurations are possible. Including 4, 5.1, or 7.1 surround solutions. These are NOT
considered standard and require de‐rigging and repositioning of a number of speakers. Please interface with the
technical manager for these kinds of set‐ups and preparation costs.
Guest systems:
Guest PA systems can be placed on stage as a stack or flown as
an array. Flown arrays can easily be rigged to pre‐installed
motors or proscenium‐spanning trusses. Maximum weight
allowed per point is 800Kg.
Acoustic Shell
The Acoustic shell is available in 3 different configurations:
FULL, HALF and SMALL
Dimensions (w/h/d):
Configuration C (Small) 15.7x11x4.5m ca. 800m3
Configuration B (Half) 15.7x11x9.0m ca. 1600m3
Configuration A (Full): 15.7x11x13.5m ca. 2300m3
The roof of the shell has constant rake of 10°
Configuration D (minimal) Mainly for smaller events like a Piano solo or
small chamber orchestra can be provided via use of the
proscenium (see below) as performance stage by removing the
seating area and lowering the provided “Acoustic Wall” and
acoustically transparent cover.
Set‐up and tear‐down times are particularly time consuming and
require precise planning. Once the shell has been placed in its
intended position, no modifications are possible. Please inform
the technical manager for detailed diagrams or custom set‐ups.
Non‐standard formats might involve additional costs.

Video
Overview
There are no specific video installations pre‐rigged at LAC.
Nonetheless, multiple VoE and F/O solutions for signal patching and routing are pre‐installed.
For all your video needs, contact the TD or the theater’s lighting/video manager.
Projector
1xPanasonic PT‐DZ770ELK is available in the control room. Although of professional quality, this projector is not suited
for movie reproduction and should not be used as sole projector for high luminosity (cinema or big‐screen projection).
It is not permanently installed and is thus mobile. If installed mid‐room or under the balcony near one of the mix
positions, audience seats might need to be removed or blocked. Fan noise might be an issue, especially if higher power
projectors need to be used (Barco etc.) This projector is not equipped with ceiling mounting hardware, nor are there
any video transmission cables pre‐installed for such use inside the theater at this point.

Fixed Screens
Video signals can be routed to a variety of
locations within the building.
LED Screens:4x65” (2 Top + 2 Bottom) are
installed in the main foyer.
7x32” (Placed next to each other horizontally)
are installed behind the main foyer, next to
ticketing.
Two screens are installed on stage (1 x side) as live reference monitors. 2 more screens are installed on every backstage
floor by the dressing rooms and the lower ‐1 storage area.

Please discuss projector positioning with the technical or Lighting Manager. There might be limitations concerning
connections (VGA, HDMI ecc..) and fan‐noise.
Video over Ethernet patching & routing
All video is routed via Extron XTP digital patching systems.
The main Matrix interface is located in the control room, together with media players and signal generators. Unless you
are operating from that position, patching will not be easily accessible or controllable. One HDMI or VGA input is
available stage‐left and signal can be routed to any of the venue’s fixed monitors. In some cases, temporary Point‐to‐
Point VoE installations might be necessary. Please discuss this with the Tech., Video or Lighting Manager prior of arrival.
Video Sources Mixing
A small video mixer is available, model Panasonic AG‐HMX100E
http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/AG‐HMX100.asp
Intercom
System overview
A digital intercom system by GreenGo is installed, multiple access points are distributed throughout the theatre.
It is capable of full duplex multichannel communication via CAT5 cable. The main interface (MCD8) is usually located
stage‐right. As of this writing, Four stations are provided, more will be available in the future.
http://www.greengodigital.com/#!multi‐channels‐desk/cwas
http://www.greengodigital.com/#!greengo‐beltpack/c1dto
Guest systems interconnections
Green‐go is fully digital. All data is I/O over Ethernet via proprietary protocol. An audio signal is transmittable to a
specific channel and receivable by all stations but this is not intended for “classical” Two way communication and will
not result in fully integrated operation.
Broadcasting
Overview
There are two main areas available to position a broadcast truck. Depending on size and needs of the current event,
one truck can be positioned near the loading docks, inside the main structure. Power is readily available nearby via
1xCEE125A and 2xCEE63A sockets. The second position is “outside”, circa 30m from the loading area. You will need to
provide your own power cabling, cable crosses and consider the extra distance for audio transport. This location (see
green circle in picture below) is mandatory if other trucks are stationed inside the loading docks and/or you need radio
or satellite connection.

2x SC type (optical) MADI Streams
64 Analog XLR outputs (via provided DA converters)
Stage Left
1x Coax MADI stream
2x SC type (optical) MADI streams
64 Analog XLR outputs (via provided DA converters)
LAC is not equipped with analog splits.
All provided streams are “copies” extracted from the main MADI stream used by our consoles.
If guests use their own equipment (desks and/or stageboxes), LAC cannot provide any of the above connections. These
will have to be pre‐planned between broadcaster and guest artist’s production or service company.
Internal connections and camera positions
Camera crew and their gear can be positioned only at specific locations. These include the sides of the proscenium, the
middle corridor of the auditorium and it’s back wall. Special provisions can be made for hand‐held cameras and/or
boom microphones. In any event, all camera positions requests must be approved by the Technical manager, the
promoter and the security officer before being installed.
As of this writing, no pre‐rigged cabling for guest AV equipment is fitted.in the auditorium. Future upgrades are
planned.
Personnel
LAC does NOT have in‐house personnel beyond a skeleton crew assisting the guest artists with theatre’s systems
operations. As a general rule, all extra personnel must travel or be provided by the guest promoter, agency or artist.
LAC can eventually help in locating and providing extra personnel (Helpers, stage‐hands, lighting, sound, electricians
etc.) please contact your assigned event manager for assistance or for other contractual detailes.

Trucking
Routes
Both north and south inbound trucks should exit the
E35 (A2) at “LuganoSud” and follow east to Lake
Lugano. Sharp left and 2Km to LAC.
Please contact the LAC Security and logistics officer for
detailed plans and traffic directions.
Permits
No trucking or heavy transport (anything over 3.5t is
considered heavy) is permitted in Switzerland between
22:00 and 05:00 or Sundays + Festivities. A special
permit is easily obtainable from the police for the cost
of 50 Sfr. Contact your event manager for information
on how to obtain these permits or have him request
one for you.
Borders & Customs
All incoming trucks must pass a customs check.
Switzerland is NOT PART OF THE EU therefore specific
documents are required for border crossing.
If you are transporting gear in and back out of the border you must provide detailed documentation in the form of a
“Carnet ATA” paper. Please contact your event manager for details and help regarding this matter.
Loading Docks and Truck Positioning
LAC’s loading area can accommodate two full size trucks next to each other.
Two
Adjacent loading platforms are present to help raise incoming gear to theatre level, either by a tilting ramp (left of
above photo) or by conventional pneumatic platform. As a general rule, if load‐in and load‐out of the show occur on the
same day, trucks or any other transport vehicles are NOT permitted to remain stationed at the loading docks. A parking
permit for specific areas in and around Lugano need to be requested in advance at the local police office. LAC can assist
you in obtaining these permits but cannot provide them for you. Private automobiles and other vehicles not strictly
used for transporting gear are not permitted in this area and will not be allowed to enter. Please give detailed
descriptions of your transportation to your local contacts and/directly to LAC A.S.A.P. to avoid delays and complications
with our security service.

Dressing Rooms
Overview
Multiple dressing rooms of variable sizes are present. Enough to accommodate ca 80 people.
They are all located back stage and accessible via stairs on both sides of the venue or via central lift.
Intercom (one‐way) and video monitoring are available on each floor and in the smaller dressing rooms.
Security
Generally, unless special needs arise, no separate security is provided beyond the venue’s standard security provisions.
If necessary, specific dressing rooms can be locked and a magnetic badge can be issued to the visiting artist’s security
chief or production manager. These badges can only be picked‐up at the backstage entrance and will have to be
returned to venue personnel before load‐out.
Backstage entrance
A secondary entrance is available and it’s (Artist only) use is encouraged. Via this entrance, dressing rooms and stage
are closer, and safer to reach. This entrance is also the only location where eventually requested electronic badges (for
locked dressing rooms) can be distributed.
Location
Ground Floor: 2x Large rooms with deposit boxes
1st floor: 2x Double rooms with Shower & WC and 2 Single rooms with WC & Shower
2nd Floor 2x Large Rooms (6‐10 p. each) with Shower & WC
3d Floor 2x Large Rooms (10+ p. each) with Shower & WC
Please contact your event manager for a detailed plan of the dressing rooms.
Costumes & Cleaning facilities
Dedicated costumes and cleaning rooms are located on the 3d floor.
Ironing board, steamer, one washing machine and one tumbler / dryer are available.
LAC does not employ specialized personnel for costume cleaning and care. It must be requested in advance and
discussed with your event manager. This personnel will be at promoter’s cost.
Carpentry and Set Construction
A room with a standard wood‐working tool set is available at the venue for minor adjustments and repairs. This is not a
fully equipped carpentry or set construction facility. No materials are provided by LAC unless specifically requested and
approved by the Technical Manager.
Security
All entrances and exits of the venue are monitored. Generally, a magnetically coded badge is necessary for all in and out
of building movements. Please interface with your event manager for all matters regarding artist “health and safety”
and internal venue operations not strictly related to technical matters.
General safety measures
All working (and non) personnel is required to wear hard hats and safety shoes & gear during set‐up and tear down. No
unauthorized personnel is allowed on stage for any reason during those periods. The venue’s technical manager reserves
the right to unilaterally halt any and all production to ensure proper security and safety standards are observed.
Emergency lighting
Emergency lighting is rigged and controlled independently of the DMX / Dimmer systems. In case of emergency (Fire,
flooding etc.) they will automatically illuminate the auditorium. This system cannot be disabled.
Emergency audio broadcast
Emergency beacons and other audio signals will be broadcast independently of the venue’s PA system in case of
emergency. This system cannot be overridden or disabled.
lac_tech_specifications_v098_en_942018‐1347.docx ‐ Page 21 of 22‐ draft 0.96
Emergency exits
The venue is equipped with standard emergency exit lights.
These may not be dimmed, switched off or covered in any way. Ever.
Smoking Ban
Swiss law dictates a smoking ban in any and all public venues and buildings. This includes the Theatre, the museum, the
stage, backstage, dressing rooms, toilets and any other indoor area. All zones are monitored by smoke detectors.
If necessary, local smoke detectors can be temporarily disabled (only stage area) to permit haze or smoke machine
operation. Please let us know ASAP if this is needed. If the smoke detectors are triggered, firemen will instantly and
AUTOMATICALLY BE ALERTED! The costs of the intervention will be invoiced to the offending party.
