STATEMENT FROM MINNESOTA COUNCIL OF HEALTH PLANS PRESIDENT & CEO
LUCAS NESSE ON CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE
“Minnesota’s local nonprofit health plans are committed to keeping Minnesotans safe and healthy. As
part of Minnesota’s strong health care community, health plans are working closely with providers and
regulators to ensure that Minnesotans have access to the appropriate testing for COVID-19 and receive
treatment as quickly as possible. According to the CDC, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is
considered low. We are encouraging anyone experiencing symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath)
or has potentially been exposed to COVID-19, to first call a provider or utilize telehealth services. This
will minimize spread of the infection and preserve resources by efficiently determining whether further
evaluation is needed.”

A screening test ordered by a medical professional will be covered under an enrollee’s usual health plan
benefits. Minnesota’s health plans are working with state and federal officials to share information and
mitigate risks. The best way to get the most up-to-date information on your health plan coverage is to
call the number on the back of your member ID card or visit your health plan’s website.
