18. Frequently asked questions
Q: What if my son/daughter needs to leave during the week?
A: It is under the discretion of the Session Directors, please discuss
with them prior to Session’s start date.
Q: Can my 18-year-old son/daughter leave during the week?
A: No. Even though he/she is legally an adult, he/she is still a partici-
pant at FSY and cannot leave the facility during the week. If the
participant arrived in his/her own vehicle, and driving is too much of a
temptation, they can give the vehicle keys to his/her counsellor
Q: Can we leave after we have checked in today?
A: No, once participants have checked in to the program, they become
the responsibility of the program’s staff.
Q: All Medical questions
A: Direct participants to the Health Counsellors. They will have records
of all participants and their medical needs. However this information is
only as good as the information provided by the young person or
parent/carer. Therefore it is important to be honest, which will support
the participant’s positive experience. The legal guardian is welcome to
contact Session Directors to discuss any concerns. This information is
confidential, however FSY YSA counsellors will be informed as
appropriate to support and provide necessary care.
Q: I’m a parent. May I have a class schedule?
A: No. First, we only order enough for the participants. Second, for
security reasons, we do not allow people not connected with FSY to
take a class schedule.
Q: We registered our son/daughter but he/she cannot come. May
we get the materials anyway (handbook, T-shirt, etc.)?
A: Yes. A counsellor must accompany parents to the solutions table
(FSY site office) to verify that the son/daughter will not be coming and
has not been issued a refund. If he/she was reimbursed, the parents
may not receive the materials.
Q: Is the hair length standard enforced?
A: Yes, the hair length standard for males is strictly enforced. Par-
ticipants who do not comply will not be allowed to check in to their
session. A barber/hairdresser will be on site at registration to cut their
hair. Should the young person refuse the hair cut, he/she will not be
checked into the session.
Q: If I attend part of the session and go home early, can I receive a
refund for the days I did not attend?
A: Unfortunately, no.
