This research was conducted in some junior high school in Tanjungpinang and Bintan.

The
population is all science teachers. The sample consists of eight schools in Tanjungpinang and four
schools in Bintan. The aims of this study is to determine utilization and obstacles in using teaching
media. Sampling technique of this study was random sampling. The method was descriptive
research. Data collection was obtained through questionnaires, interviews and documentation.
Questionnaire contains ten questions using Guttman scale consists of yes and no. Data also
collected by interviewing teachers to find out the obstacles during the learning process and by
looking at the RPP that was created by teachers on the teaching media. The results obtained an
average of 69.16% of teachers used teaching media during learning process. Whereas based on
curriculum teachers must use teaching media during learning process. The Obstacles in using
teaching media obtained by interview. Whereas the results obtained by analyzing the RPP are the
teacher wrote teaching media in every meeting with student, this is not in accordance with the
reality of the average yield. There should be a policy of government and school to overcome these
obstacles. Further research which researcher recommend is research to know the creativity of
teachers in making teaching media.
