March 19, 2018

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of a 60-minute period, the students will be able to:
1. Describe incomplete dominance of Non-Mendelian inheritance
2. Create a punnett square of incomplete dominance
3. Appreciate the phenotypic expression of incomplete dominance
Code: S9LT-Id-29
II. SUBJECT MATTER
INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE

C. Science Ideas
Incomplete dominance is when a dominant allele, or a form of a gene,
does not completely mask the effects of a recessive allele, and the organism’s
resulting physical appearance shows a blending of both alleles. Thus, the result is
a third phenotype.
D. Processes
Describing, creating and appreciating
E. Values
Students will appreciate the expression of incomplete dominance inheritance
in the field of genetics. Creativity, teamwork and collaboration of the
students will be enhanced since they will be working in groups in a given
activity.
F. Unlocking of Difficult Terms
 Allele- a certain form of gene.
 Genes- the basic physical and functional unit of heredity
 Genotype-the chemical composition of its DNA , which gives rise to the
phenotype, or the observable traits of an organism.
 Heterozygous trait- is a mix of the dominant and recessive
 Homozygous- an identical pairs of gene for any given pair of heredity
characteristics
 Phenotype- observable physical characteristics from the genes and the
environment
 Punnett square- a diagram that shows the possible outcomes of breeding
between two individual

A. Preliminary Activity
1. Greetings
Good morning class! How are you Good morning ma’am!
today? That’s nice to hear that. We’re fine ma’am.
2. Prayer
Before we start our lesson for Yes ma’am.
today, let’s have a prayer first. Lord, thank you for this wonderful day
Can I request somebody to lead the that you have given to us. Bless us and
prayer? guide us in everything we do and we
are hoping as we end this class, we
may acquire knowledge that can be
use in our daily lives. Amen!
Thank you for the prayer.
3. Checking of Attendance
Is everybody present today? Yes ma’am.
Very good!
4. Checking of Assignment
In your assignment, I told you to
give me the non-mendelian
inheritance. So, what are these?
5. Review of Past Lesson
Let’s try to review what have you
learned about mendelian
inheritance. Describe the
phenotypic ratio.

Ma’am, in mendelian inheritance, a

homozygous dominant if cross into a
homozygous recessive will have a 3:1
ratio because the the dominant allele
will completely dominate than the
recessive one. Therefore, its trait will
be express to the offspring
B. Motivation
Before we start our lesson for today, I
have a story for you. This entitled
“The Pink Gumamela”
1.Once upon a time, in a faraway land
there lived a beautiful princess. The
beautiful princess has a sweet lover
prince. They really love each
other. 2.One day, a wicked witch got
jealous of her beauty. The witch
decided to put a spell on her by giving a
poisonous apple. 3.The princess took a
bite of it and immediately, she fell into
a deep sleep. 4 The people were so
worried because neither the prince nor
the doctors in the village could wake
her up. 5.The only thing that can break
the spell is the pink gumamela that can
be found in a dark, horrible and
dangerous forest. Many people tried to
go to this forest but none of them came
back. 6.In their village, the only have
red and white gumamela…

Class if you were the concerned lover,

will go to that forest? How much you
can do to your love ones?Or how about
we will find an alternative solution?

Your task today is to help the princess

free from spell.

To do that, we will be having our

activity now.
But before we start, kindly read our Incomplete Dominance Inheritance
topic and objectives for today. At the end of a 60-minute period, the
students will be able to:
1. Describe incomplete
dominance of Non-Mendelian
inheritance
2. Create a punnett square of
incomplete dominance
3. Appreciate the phenotypic
expression of incomplete
Thank you so much, for today’s lesson you will dominance
be able to understand and describe the
offspring that undergoes incomplete
dominance inheritance.
C. Activity
Everybody, let’s start our activity, I will group
the class into 3. Let’s have a count off.
I will provide the activity sheet as well as the The students will count off.
materials. All you have to do is read the
instructions and follow. Can I ask somebody to
read the activity title and instruction? Incomplete Dominance
“Princess, wake up!”
Instructions:
1. To help the sleeping princess free
from spell to the story entitled “The
Pink Gumamela”, you need to
crossbreed the red and white
gumamela by mixing its paint color(red
and white).
2. The mixture will be used to color the
cut-out flower.
3. After doing so, create a punnet
square of incomplete dominance.
Note:
RR- red; rr- white;
Rr-_______ (the result color)
4. Answer what is being asked. You
have 8 minutes to do your activity and
2 minutes to present it on the board.

now?
You may start right now.
Everyone in the group must participate. Yes ma’am.
Are you done?

All your answers are correct! Since you help
the sleeping princess to be awakened and free
from spell, I will continue what happened to
the story.

“The prince immediately crossed the red and

white gumamela in their village. Fortunately,
the result produced pink gumamela that lead
the princess to wake up after being asleep.
And they lived happily ever after.”
D. Analysis
Ma’am, incomplete dominance is when

of a recessive allele, and the
organism’s resulting physical
appearance shows a blending of both
alleles. Thus, the result is a third

no dominant and no recessive in this
phenomenon.
Very good!
How about if we will cross the pink and pink

generation.

phenotypic ratio? Phenotype Red Pink white
ratio 1 2 1

Very good. So, who can compare the result Ma’am, the first filial generation will
between the first and second filial generation? have a result of 100% pink or an
intermediate phenotype resulting from
blending of two alleles while the
second filial generation will have a
result of 1:2:1. One for red, the
homozygous dominant allele, two for
heterozygous pink, and one for
homozygous recessive white.

Right, so I think you already understand its

concept. Let’s proceed to the other activity.
E. Application
The next activity will be done by the
same group. So you go to your
respective area.
I will also provide the materials for you.

Instructions:
1. Answer the activity I give to you. Write your
answers in the cartolina.
2. Assign one or two reporter to present your
output on the class. Yes ma’am.
So, I will give you 8 minutes to do your activity
and 2 minutes to present. Is it clear? Expected outcome:
