Good Morning everyone.

I am Faye Manalo and I am going to talk about the most

interesting and somehow weird cultures and traditions around the world. We all know that
every country in this world is different with each other; this is of course in terms of
several traditions and cultures a country have. Some of these cultures and traditions may
come in to you as absurd and bizarre but if we delve into it, it may seem fascinating also.
I am going to only give five traditions from different countries.soooo..
The first one is called the Monkey Buffet Festival. This festival is held in Thailand
every 25th of November and is very unique and often visited by many tourists. People
from this place sets up tables or mats in front of the temples in Thailand and they place
approximately 4000 kilograms of food and drinks ranging from fruits, vegetables, cakes
and candies then thousands of monkeys living in that area gather around the food, eat and
entertain the tourists or viewers from this festival.
The second one is Gurning Competition in England. Gurning is when you distort
your facial expression like this. This competition go long way back in 1297 and is still
going on today. The main goal of this competition is to attempt to make the grotesque
face possible that you can do while wearing a horse collar under their neck. This tradition
may sound silly but some competitors take this seriously, so serious a competitor had his
teeth removed to make his facial maneuvers easily.
The next one is El Colacho or Baby Jumping in Spain. This festival is also called as
Devil Festival. Anyone who has newborn in the family can bring their babies in this
festival. The babies are laid on the ground in a mattress and grown men dressed as devils
jump over those infants. This is basically done because they believe that it is supposed to
cleanse them from all of the evil doings that they committed. However, there are
instances that injuries are being committed but still the festival is very popular in Spain.
The fourth one is Ritual Finger Amputation by the Dani Tribe in Papua New Guinea.
For the Dani tribe, amputation is a form of of mourning. The members of this tribe cut off
their own fingers as a way of displaying their grief to their dead loved ones at funeral
ceremonies. Along with the amputation, they also smear their faces with ashes or clay, to
express sorrow and grief.
The last one is from Madagascar. It is called Famadihana which means "turning of
the bones". This certain tradition is celebrated every 7 years wherein the family crypts or
their dead loved ones are opened up then wrapped up in a new cloth. The Madagascar
people will then dance with the corpses with joy. This tradition is viewed as a day where
you show your family how much you love them.
There are still many that I left out due to the lack of time. Some of them are even far
more unique than the ones that I shared. If you want to know more, search in the Internet.
