ANTEENA AND WAVE PROPAGATION
'E' Scheme
Paper : EE-307-E
Time : Three hours] [ Maximum Marks : 100
Before answering the questions, candidates should ensure that they
have been supplied the correct and complete question paper. Ne
complain in this regard, will be entertained after examination.
Note: All questions carry equal marks. Attempt any five
questions.
1. (a) What do you mean by radiation mechanism of an
antenna ? Also discuss the basic antenna
elements. 10
(b) Explain in detail field and patter of an
infinitesimal dipole. 10
2. Show that currents and voltages at the terminals of
two antennas satisfy reciprocity theorem of circuit
theory. Use the theorem to prove that the effective
length of an antenna used in transmission and in
receiving is equal. 20
2204-1450-(P-3)(@-8) (13) P.T.0.-3. (a) Discuss the various potentials used in antenna
theory, 10
(b) Drive wave equation for radiated fields from
current and voltage source in terms of electric
scalar and magnetic vector Potential. 10
4. (a) Explain the relation between current distribution
and field pattern of an antenna. 10
(b) Explain in detail about the mutual impedance. 10
5. What is a broadside array? Explain in detail the
structure, radiation Pattern and principle of operation
of such an antenna. How does radiation pattem get
modified if the Spacing of the elements of the array is
changed? ; 20
6. (a) Explain the operating principle of microwave
* antenna with diagram. 10
(b) A parabolic antenna having a circular mouth is to
have a power gain of 1000 at A. = 10 om
Estimate the diameter of the mouth and the half
Power beam width of the antenna. . 10
7. (a) A high frequency radio link has to establish
between two points on the earth 200km away.
The reflection region of the ionosphere is at a
height of 200 km and has a critical frequency of 6
Mhz. calculate the MUF for the given path. 15
) Write a short note on Duct Propagation, 5
2204-1450-(P-3)(Q-8) (13) (2)8. Write short on any two : 10x2=20
(a) Space wave propagation
(b) Radiation resistance
(c) Horn antenna
