METHODOLOGY

A) Preparation of Test Rockwell Specimen

The surface of specimen was grinded and polished with sand paper

B) Rockwell Hardness Test

The speciment was placed on the surface of the Rockwell Hardness test unit

The suitable indenter was selected for each specimen

A suitable Rockwell hardnell scale (HR scale) category was chose for each specimen

The distance between specimen and indenter must be at least 2 or 3mm.

Start button located at touch screen was pressed until beginning of the countdown

The Rockwell Hardness value, HR scale, indenter, minor and major load was recorded in
table A

The experiment was repeated using other test piece

Table 2: Table Of Standard Deviation

Material Average (HBR) Standard

∑(𝑥−𝑥̅ )2
Deviation: (𝜎 = √ )
𝑛

Steel 90.43 0.8601

Aluminium 60.32 3.6848
Brass 59.43 0.9955
Copper 25.54 0.5995
CALCULATION

∑(𝑥 − 𝑥̅ )2
(𝜎 = √ )
𝑛

A) Steel

(90.24 − 90.43)2 + (91.57 − 90.43)2 + (89.49 − 90.43)2

𝜎=√
3

= 0.8601

B) Aluminium

(58.60 − 60.32)2 + (65.44 − 60.32)2 + (56.92 − 60.43)2

𝜎=√
3

= 3.6848

C) Brass

(59.55 − 59.43)2 + (60.59 − 59.43)2 + (58.16 − 59.43)2

𝜎=√
3

= 0.9955

D) Copper

(25.19 − 25.54)2 + (25.04 − 25.54)2 + (26.38 − 25.54)2

𝜎=√
3

= 0.5995
