1. There is a 60 % reduction in the value of the rate constant of a reaction when the
reaction temperature decreases from 60o C to 40o C. What is the activation energy
value?

2. Two second order reactions have identical frequency factors. But their activation
energy differs by 20.9 KJ/mol. Calculate the ratio of their rate constant at 500o C.

3. Derive the reduced time equation in terms of t/t 0.2 for the following kinetic laws:

A) 1 – (1 – α)1/3 = k t
B) 1 – 2 α / 3 * (1 – α)2/3 = k t
C) – ln (1 – α) = k t

4. The kinetic data for isothermal reduction of iron ore at three temperatures
summarized in the Table:
Value of α

ToC t min -> 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

826 0.035 0.076 0.106 0.13 0.148 0.16 0.178
900 0.05 0.15 0.14 0.17 0.192 0.210 0.230
1020 0.10 0.18 0.22 0.24 0.255 0.262 0.270

a) Plot α – t plots for the three temperatures

b) Plot integral kinetic plots g(α) = k t assuming g(α) = 1 – 2 α / 3 * (1 – α)2/3
c) Plot Arrhenius plot and evaluate E
d) Plot ln tα vs 104 / T at α = 0.2, α = 0.15 and α = 0.1 and evaluate E.
e) Plot ln [dα/dt]α vs 104/ T at α = 0.1, α = 0.15 and α = 0.2 and evaluate E.
