Museo Sugbo

The museum is a place where antique things and art are preserved for the
public to be seen, a place where rare things of past and present are kept, a place
where you can see a collection of rare things and things of historical interest. When
we visited Museo Sugbo, it is like “travel to the Past” or “look back to the Past”.The
galleries are housed in four separate buildings and are in chronological order. It’s as
if you are time-traveling or stepping into a different era every time you walk in a
gallery. For the first and second room “Pre-colonial Gallery” and “Spanish colonial
Gallery”, there were so many artifacts that were collected such as stone tools, boat-
shaped coffins, gold-pegged teeth, dutdutan (manual cotton gin), jars, spinning
wheel, antique guns and bracelets that were made from horns. As we enter the
other room we saw many drawings, paintings, and pictures about the past presidents
with their background/ stories like Emilio Aquinaldo, Cory Aquino, Ferdinand Marcos,
Manuel Quezon and etc. It really made the visitors to learn the past happenings.
Past Philippine money was collected and it really hit me that the past and present is
really different because today I have observed 100 pesos is really easy to spend
while before 25 centavos is really a big amount and you can buy a lot from it. There
were also papers that serves as a primary sources that can help answer all of our
questions. Some things in the past were still used in today’s generation such as corn
mill and bahay kubo but people in the province were mostly using it. I was really
surprised when I saw foreign people there, they were taking pictures and I can really
see how happy and amazed they are to know the history of our country.

Museum served as an eye-opener to us to appreciate our culture, our history

and especially our nationalism. They are the ultimate learning environment, they
grant access to things that most people would never encounter on their own. We
have a very rich heritage, so rich that we have a lot to learn and understand about
the practices, traditions, and ways of living of our ancestors; we have to embrace the
culture that is unique to us, so we can have a better understanding of our roots and
of who we are. We should all take time to make regular visits to our museums to
immerse in our history and culture.
