Chapter 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter dealt on the methods and materials used by the researchers

in conducting the present study. It include the research design used, subjects

of the study and sampling scheme, the data gathering instrument, collection

data and statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

This study used the descriptive research design to know how awareness

the respondents were when it comes to national ID system. The design used

to determine and explain how level of their awareness are.

Panopio (2009) defined descriptive methods as the statistical procedure

concerned with the describing the characteristic and properties of a grouo of

persons, places, events or objects and Icutan (2014) expressed descriptive

statistics as methods for organizing, summarizing and presenting data in an

instructive way.
Subjects of the Study and Sampling Scheme

The subjects of the study was the Financial and Government Institutions,

according to the record of the municipality of Rosales, Pangasinan, there are

twenty-seven (27) registered banks in Rosales, Pangasinan of which ten (10)

banks of them were let the researchers to conduct the study and branch

manager, loan officer and government employees are the subject of the study

using convenient sampling.

Data Gathering Instrument

The main data gathering instrument to be used in the study is a

questionnaire-checklist which consisted of two parts. Part 1 deals on the

personal profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, hughest educational

attainment, position and length of service. The 2nd part deals on the

respondents’ level of awareness on the national ID system in terms of security,

importance and benefits.

Collection Data

Prior to the distribution of questionnaire-checklist, copies of letter to the

respondents were distributed to the banking institutions and to the government

institutions to ask permission regarding the conduct of the study upon the

approval of the Financial Research Adviser, and proper authority. Thereafter,

the questionnaire-checklist was floated among the respondents. The

researchers approached politely the respondents and explained clearly the

necessity to answer the questions honestly. The researchers personally

administered and retrieved the questionnaires to the company-‘s branch

managers, loan officers and government employees. All of the floated

questionnaires were retrieved, tabulated and interpreted.

Statistical Treatment of Data

Proper statistical tools will be used by the researchers in the analysis on

the data gathered.

For problem number 1, the data regarding the respondents’ personal profile

was statistically treated using a frequent table with the corresponding

frequency count (f) and percentage (P) using the formula as:
f
%= (100)
n
Where: % - percentage equivalent of each profile bracket

f – number of respondents that fall in each profile bracket

n – total numbers of respondents

For problem number 2, the arithmetic mean from the grouped data used

to measure the respondents’ level of cognizance of national ID system in terms

of security, importance and benefits and procedures was tabulated in a mean

scale with corresponding average weighted mean (AMW) and the formula.was,

fX
WM = n

where : WM – average equivalent of each category

f – number of respondents that fall in each category

x – point value classification of the responses

n – total number of respondents.

The levels of awareness of the respondents will be interpreted according to a

Five-Likert Scale as:

Point Value Classification Mean Scale Description

5 4.20 - 5.00 Strongly Agree

4 3.40 - 4.19 Agree

3 2.60 - 3.39 Neutral Agree

2 1.80 - 2.59 Disagree

1 1.00 - 1.79 Strongly Disagree
