Honesty is the Best Policy

A very good morning to our honorable judges, headmasters, teachers, time

keeper and all my fellow friends.

Ladies and gentlemen,

People nowadays are less honest with each other than our forefather, which

make living in this modern life is not easy at all. The fact that people are not honest

causes problems, some of which could hurt others badly. In my opinion lying is not a

good job to do. Thus I agree the statement honesty is the best policy.

Benjamin Franklin had truly said the saying of honesty is the best policy.

Honesty is considered as the backbone of a successful and well-working

relationship. Being honest is very important in the relationship because no

relationship can be successful without trust. Being completely honest in the life is

somewhat tough but it goes long way however being dishonest is easy but covers

very small and painful path. Being a truthful person in the family and society is like

being awarded all through the life by the dear ones as well as nature. Honesty gives

us power to tackle any bad circumstances in the life as people around us trust us

and be with us. May be telling white lies give good feeling in the starting however it

may badly harm at the end.

Everyone is familiar with the stories of Pinocchio and the boy who cried Wolf.

While Pinocchio’s nose elongated every time he told a lie, the boy in the other story

met terrible thing upon lying to the villagers. These stories are an attempt to teach

children the importance of being honest. They show the consequences of lying. But

what they do not throw light on is the fact that, being dishonest to others is being

dishonest to oneself.

Members of the floor,

Honesty also enables a person to be the best version of them. It shows that

they are a genuine person, with nothing to hide. It allows them to fully be at peace

with who they are and not feel the need to lie or hide anything. Moreover, those who

are honest are trustworthy. Such attributes make them a likeable person. Honesty is

one of those roads, that may not always be easy, but once taken, they simplify your

life to a great extent.

Those who are honest have fewer things to worry about. They are known to

have stronger relations with people. Lying, on the other hand, is a negative habit. It’s

like quicksand, in the sense that once you start lying, you are caught in a trap. You

end up lying more, as time goes by. It creates a bad impression on people. Bad

impressions are difficult to get rid of. Without developing the habit of honesty, we

cannot achieve simplicity and other goodness in the life. We can say that, honesty

can be without simplicity but simplicity cannot be without honesty.

Have you ever been deceived by someone you thought was a good friend? If

so, how did you feel? Likely you felt hurt, even betrayed. That certainly is

understandable. There is little doubt that dishonesty can destroy the fabric of

precious relationships. Trust can be shattered, however, by just one act of

dishonesty. And when trust has been broken, it can be very difficult to rebuild.

Without honesty, we live in the two world, means a true one and other one which we

have created as an alternate.

Regardless of your intentions, honesty is usually the best tactic to a healthier

lifestyle. There’s no greater good you can do than be honest with yourself about

what you believe and what you want out of life. It brings together the body, mind and

soul that creates a sense of balance.

Ladies and gentlemen,

It has been proved from several years that the saying ‘honesty is the best

policy’ has helped great people in building empires by winning the trust of its citizens.

History tells us that telling lie never become successful and makes the

circumstances worse. Some people do not choose the way of truth because of many

reasons or they do not have dare to live with honesty. However some hard times of

the life make them realize the importance of honesty. Telling lie may hold us in big

problems which we cannot bear, so we should be honest and trustworthy in our life.

Hence I do believe that being honest shows the good and clean character of

the person as honesty helps to develop quality property in the behaviour. Honesty

changes the person from outside as well as inside without giving any harm and

keeps the mind very peaceful. A peaceful mind gives satisfaction to the person by

making a nice balance among body, mind and spirit. Honesty and good character

are the more valuable property of the honest person than the precious things like

silver or gold.
