General instructions for the guidance of students for
M.Com. Part I and Part II (External) Examinations to be held in 2006
Please go through the following instructions carefully.
Incomplete applications and those received after the prescribed date are likely to be rejected.

General Instructions
1. M.Com. (External) Degree Examination will be held once in a year in March/April and it will be held
in two parts, namely, M.Com., Parts I & II.
2. Applications in the prescribed form for Registration and Examination together with the required
certificates (along with their certified copies) duly filled in must reach the Registrar, Gujarat
University, Ahmedabad-380 009 by Registered Post or the University Office personally not earlier
than 19-9-2005 and not later than 18-10-2005 . No application received after 18-10-2005 will be
acceptable. The University will in no way be responsible for loss of applications or certificates sent
by ordinary post.
An incomplete application will not be entertained and the fees, if paid, will be refunded at his
cost as per relevant Orinance of the University and no further correspondence in that behalf will be
entertained.
3. A person who has passed B.Com. Degree Examination of this University or an examination
recognised by this University as euivalent thereto shall be held eligible for registration as an external
candidate for the M.Com. Part I Examination, provided he/she is—
EITHER
( a ) a Graduate in Commerce (hoding a B.Com. Degree) and whose mothertongue is Gujarati;
OR
( b ) a Graduate in Commerce (holding a B.Com. Degree) who though his mother-tongue is not
Gujarati, has been residing in the Gujarat State for a continuous period of not less than one
year immediately preceding the date fixed as the last date for receiving applications for such
Registration.
4. A candidate for the M.Com (External) Degree Examination shall first pass the M.Com. Part I
Examination, for being held eligible to appear for the M.Com. (External) Part II Examination at least
one year thereafter, provided that he is duly registered for the purpose as required under the relevant
rules of the University. The Registration fees, examination fees and fees for the mark-statement shall
be paid in one single instalment for each part of the Examination.
5. No candidate shall be allowed to offer a subject at M.Com. (External) Examination in which the
practical and/or the laboratory work, if any, is involved.
6. A candidate for the M.Com. (External) Examination shall select the optional papers as per the scheme
mentioned below :

Notwithstanding anything contained above, the candidates who have offered any one of the
subjects, viz., Advanced Economics or Business Management or Banking or Economics of Cotton
or Economics of Transport or Co-operation at the B.Com. Degree Examination as optional subjects
shall select any two of the following papers carrying 100 marks and of 3 hours'
duration each :

[N.B. : As there is dissertation at M.Com. Part I Examination in Business Management candidate
who offered Business Management at B.Com. Examination will not be permitted to offer
Business Management at M.Com. (External) Examination].
7. No person shall be held eligible for registration as a candidate for the M.Com. Part II (External)
Examination unless he has passed M.Com. Part I Examination of this University.

8. No candidate shall be held eligible to appear at the M.Com. Part I or Part II (External) Examination,
unless he has been first registered as an external candidate as per University rules in this behalf in
force from time to time.
9. Any person who desires to apply for registration as an external student for the M.Com. Degree
Examination shall, after ascertaining his eligibility or registration, apply in the prescribed form with
the requisite fees on or before the 18-10-2005 of the concerned academic year. A person duly
registered under these rules shall be called an external student of the University for M.Com. Part I
or M.Com. Part II as the case may be.
10. No person who is a regular student in a college affiliated to this University or an institution recognised
by this University or a Post-graduate Department of this University or who is studying as a regular
student anywhere else in the academic year concerned shall be held eligible for registration as an
external student for the M.Com. (Ext.) Degree Examination.
11. ( i ) An external student duly registered for the M.Com. (External) Degree Examination shall be
exempted from regular attendance as a student in any post-graduate department or a post-
graduate centre of the University and from keeping the prescribed terms at the University.
( ii ) The courses of studies, the books prescribed or recommended, the standard of passing, etc.,
for the M.Com. (External) Degree Examination shall be the same as those for the M.Com.
Examination intended for regular students of this University studying in a post-graduate
department or a post-graduate centre of the University.
( iii ) Candidates desiring to appear at the M.Com. (External) Degree Examination as external
candidates shall be required to register afresh every year for the concerned part of the
examination, namely, Part I or Part II, as the case may be.
12. Registration shall be made afresh every year for each examination, and so the candidates who has
registered their names for an examination in a previous year and have either not appeared or having
appeared and have failed thereat are required to get their names registered afresh by submitting a
fresh application and paying the necessary fees therefore afresh.
13. A candidate at the M.Com. (External) Degree Examination shall, at his option be entitled to use as
a medium of his examination one and only one of the three languages, viz., Gujarati or Hindi or
English and will also be required to specify it clearly in the forms of his applications for registration
and examination.
14. A candidate must choose his subject after very careful consideration. No request for a change of
subjects shall be entertained after the application for registration is submitted.
15. Candidate will be required to submit their recent pass-port-size photograph duly attested by a member
of the University Court or the Principal of a college affiliated to this University or by the head of
a recognised institution or a University Department or a Gazetted Officer of at least Grade II or a
Magistrate alongwith the application for registration.
16. A candidate desiring to get himself registered for the M.Com. (External) Part I Examination on the
basis of his having passed the B.Com. Examination of any other University will be required to
obtain an eligibility certificate from this Office by applying in the prescribed form attached
herewith and paying the fee prescribed in this behalf which is Rs. 100/- for a student migrating from
a University in the Gujarat State and for others Rs. 100/- shall be paid by Students Migrating from
other then Gujarat State University.
17. The fresh or repeater student will be required to pay a total amount of Rs. 600/- (Rs. 250/-
Registration fees + Rs. 350/- Examination fees including Marks Statement fees) at the time of
Registration, in cash at the University counter or by a demand draft sending in favour of Registrar,
Gujarat Uni., Ahmedabad-9.
18. A candidate who has registered his name with the changed subject shall not be considered as a
repeater candidate.
19. A written intimation of the Registration when effected shall be made to every candidate who is
registered by the end of March, provided the required formalities in respect of the Registration
are completed. The candidates are therefore, reqested to wait till the stipulated date and need not send
any reminder regarding their registration till then.
20. No person who has passed a degree examination in a Faculty other than the Faculty of Commerce
shall be eligible to appear directly at M.Com. (External) Degree Examination unless he has obtained
B.Com. Degree of this or any other University recognised equivalent thereto.
21. Candidates can avail themselves of the reading facilities at the University Library by enrolling
themselves as regular readers on such terms and conditions as may be prescribed by the authorities
of the University Library.

22. If there is any doubt or dispute regarding registration or any point including payment of fees,
candidates are advised to pay the necessary fees in the first instance, and then write for resolving
the doubt or dispute, rather than allow the closing date for registration to lapse. The decision of the
Vice-Chancellor in the event of any doubt or dispute shall be final.
23. A person duly registred as an external candidate shall not be entiled to attend any post-graduate class
at any post-graduate department or post-graduate centre of this University or to any other facilities
or privileges such as books, games, etc. thereof.
24. A copy of the prospectus containing the application forms for Registraton and for Examination, etc.
and other detailed rules can be had from the University Office on payment of Rs. 30/- every year
between 19-9-2005 to 18-10-2005 only No separate registration forms will be issued by the
University Office. The application form for registration shall hold good for the year for which it is
issued and shall not be accepted if sought to be used in a subsequent year.
25. Important note : Persons who desire to register themselves as external candidates are required to note
that while asking for a pamphlet containing the forms of registration, etc. the name of the
examination, viz., M.Com. Part I or M.Com. Part II for which the registration is desired and the full
name and address of the candidate must be clearly mentioned on the Demand Draft of Rs. 30/- in
favour of the Registrar, Money order shall not be accepted.
26. No currency notes or Postal stamps should be enclosed (alongwith the application for registration).
Those who do so, will do so at their own risk and no complaint regarding loss of money so sent
will be entertained.
27. Candidates are requested to read these instructions carefully and ascertain whether they are eligible
for the Registration according to rules applicable to them before applying for the registration.
28. A candidate who has passed his M.Com. Degree Examination either as a Regular Student or as an
External Student offering any four of the optional papers mentioned in R. M.Com. 1 & 4 shall be
permitted to offer at the M.Com., Part II Examination, any four of the remaining papers excepting
Paper in Business Management. Such a candidate shall be required to register himself afresh and to
pay Rs. 600/- (i.e. Rs. 250/- as Registration fee + Rs. 350/- as Examination fees including Mark
Statement).
Provided that in the case of a candidate who thus appears as per O. M.Com.-8 at the
Examination, the marks obtained by him in the four compulsory papers at the previous examination
shall be carried forward. Such a candidate will, in that case, be entitled to a class in the examination
admissible under the rules of the University in that behalf, but will not be entitled to any prize or
scholarship or medal or any other award.
29. The original certificates sent with application for Registration will be returned to the candidates only
with he letter intimating Registration. Candidates who require them early or likely to need them for
the purpose of employment etc., are requested to keep with them few extra certified copies attested
by a Government Gazetted Officer for the possible use.
30. Candidates are not required to pay any other fees at the time of appearing at the examination. They
are however required to keep with them the Registration fee receipt issued in their favour by the
University and it should be shown to the Supervisor when asked for in the examination hall. In the
absence of the fee receipt they will not be allowed to appear at the examintion. Separate admission
cards are not issued by the University.
31. M.Com. Part I and M.Com. Part II Examination will be held at Ahmedabad only. Examination
programme, showing the place and dates of examinations etc. will be sent by ordinary post to the
candidates at their addresses given in their application for registration at least a fortnight before the
date of commencement of the Examination. The time table for the M.Com. External Examination will
be the same as for M.Com. Regular students.
32. The candidates are requested to note that the University will not intimate to them their
examination seat numbers by post. The seat numbers will be available at the places of
examination and at the University office by about four days before the commencement of the
examination.

A person whose mother-tongue is Gujarati or who has resided in the Gujarat State for not less than one year
immediately preceding his application for registration shall be admitted to the M.Com. (External) Degree

( 1 ) passed the B.Com. Degree Examination of this University or an Examination recognised as equlvalent
thereto; and
( 2 ) applied for registration as an External candidate before the 4th November of the previous calendar year.
O. M.Com. Ext. 2 :
A candidate for the M.Com. (External) Examination shall select the optional papers as per the scheme
mentioned below :

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
All the candidates appearing at the external examination are hereby informed to note that —
(1) They are required to keep with them the offical original fee receipt sent to them and to show
it to the Supervisor in the examination hall when asked for. They will be allowed to appear
at the examination only on production of the said fee receipt. Separate admission cards are
not issued by this office.
(2) Their examination seat numbers will be available at the University office and places of
examination by about four days before the commencement of the examination. Seat
numbers are not intimated to the candidates individually by the University office.
(3) The examination programme will be sent by the ordinary post at the address given in their
application for registration at least a fortnight before the date of commencement of the
examination and if the candidate does not get the copy of the programme within this time-
limit he should write to or contact the University office for the same.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
All the candidates appearing at the external examination are hereby informed to note that —
(1) They are required to keep with them the offical original fee receipt sent to them and to show
it to the Supervisor in the examination hall when asked for. They will be allowed to appear
at the examination only on production of the said fee receipt. Separate admission cards are
not issued by this office.
(2) Their examination seat numbers will be available at the University office and places of
examination by about four days before the commencement of the examination. Seat
numbers are not intimated to the candidates individually by the University office.
(3) The examination programme will be sent by the ordinary post at the address given in their
application for registration at least a fortnight before the date of commencement of the
examination and if the candidate does not get the copy of the programme within this time-
limit he should write to or contact the University office for the same.
