 Given the political and economic situation of the Philippines, which theme do you

think should our government most hear and take to heart? Why?

There are lot of issues that Philippines currently face especially economic issues
which include poverty. Our country, the Philippines, has been facing the struggles of poverty
for so many years. With this, I think that the theme which the government should most hear
and take to heart is: “Acting together to empower children, their families and communities to
end poverty.”
This was the theme for the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2019. I
chose this theme for some reasons. First, I believe that the children are the hope of our nation
just as what Dr. Jose Rizal said. Empowering them through education is one step in
mitigating poverty. The government should give value to the capabilities of the children
because we might not know that if only they were given a chance, they can make a difference
in our society. Second, the basic unit of the society is the family. In connection to
empowering the children, I believe the family plays an important role because education
starts at home. It has been said that our parents are our first teachers. In making decisions for
the country, the government should consider the Filipino families for it is in them that
children empowerment starts. Lastly, the community as a whole, can together make a change.
I think that if there’s a good upbringing within the families, then there would be many
empowered children ready to take actions for better future. Thus, this will lead to an
empowered and meaningful community wherein lots of opportunities are available for people
to help reduce poverty.
If governed correctly, the community can do a lot of things to eradicate poverty. A
well-structured community can offer livelihood projects to less fortunate families so they can
have additional source of income. The government should empower communities to live
values favorable to the humanity such as the value or virtue of charity and camaraderie.
