MY FAVORITE PLACE IN THE CITY

DESCRIPTION: The Luis Ángel Arango Library. The current headquarters was finish built
in January of 1959, and it was inaugurated the same year in February 20, by the Banco de la
República, institution to which it belongs. As an important fact, it has more than two
million copies, an area of 45.000 square meters, six floors, two, basements, and up to date it
receives more than 5.000 users.

LOCATION: Is located in the Candelaria neighborhood in downtown Bogotá

SHORT DESCRIPTION: The library is the head of the Library Network of the Bank of the
Republic, which includes twenty-two offices in different cities of Colombia. This enigmatic
library also includes a concert hall of excellent quality for excellent artists. Has been stage
of many transcendent moments in the Colombian music history.

HISTORY: Transcendent moments


When the Banco de la República was founded in 1923, the manager Luis Ángel Arango had
the idea of creating a library that helps promote culture in the city. In that way, today it is
one of the most important libraries in the country.

REASONS TO LIKE IT:


I really like this place because since I was a child I've always been reading books and
listening to music in the library, which it's been excellent for my cultural develop. Also a
few years ago I had the opportunity to sing with a choir in the concert hall. That was a
magic moment in my life I’ll never forget.
