LOCAL STUDIES

Gilbert C. Magulod Jr. concluded that his study examined learning style preferences, study habits

and level of academic achievement of students enrolled in science courses. The study revealed

that the students of the science courses preferred visual, group and kinesthetic as major learning

styles considering tactile, auditory and individual learning styles as minor learning preferences.

They manifested a moderate level of study habits and skills with time management,

concentration, note taking, reading comprehension, test preparation, and test taking, reading

speed, writing skill, and managing test anxiety. Most students have good level of academic

achievement. Finally there were significant relationships between learning styles, study habits

and academic performance of students in applied science courses.  The implications of the study

can guide instructors to plan and deliver suitable instructional interventions.

Quenie, Ian, Christian noted that base of the analysis and interpretation it has been found that the

majority of the bottom 20 grade 12 STEM students are very low in their levels of study habits as

compared to the top 20 grade 12 STEM students (50%). But 30 % of the top 20 STEM students

also possess low level of study habits. Regardless of the 70% the grade 12 STEM students have

satisfactory and above level of study habits. They also found that all top 20 grade 12 STEM

students have proficient and above academic performance which 25% of them have excellent

academic performance and most of them have approaching excellence performance. Study habits

and academic performance have a positive relationship based on the findings. If a student

possess good study habits then he/she would have good academic performance.
