Date of Defense :

This study aimed to determine the impact of alcohol consumption in the behavior

of nursing students in Adventist Medical Center College-Iligan City

Specifically sought to answer the following questions: (1) What is the

respondents’ profile in terms of age, gender and year level? (2) What are the

quantity/amount of alcohol consumed by the respondent and their behavior? (3) Is

there a significant difference on the respondents’ behavior when grouped according to

their profile in terms of age, gender and year level?

The research design used in the study is the descriptive research design. It is

limited for the students who only drinks alcohol. The descriptive research design used

a fourteen (14) item questionnaire as the main gathering tool. The said questionnaire

is distributed to 46 nursing students who were enrolled at Adventist Medical Center

College (AMCC) academic year 2018-2019. Data results were statistically analyzed

and interpreted using appropriate statistical tools including the frequency distribution

table, the weighted mean and the p-value.

The result shows that majority of the respondents belonged to the age bracket of

20-22 years (46.5%), most were females (81.4%) and there were more first year

(freshmen) nursing students (46.5%). This suggested that majority of the nursing

students studying at AMCC who is influenced by the impact of alcohol consumption

were females aged between 20-22 years and there were more freshmen students

compared to juniors and seniors.

Results of the questionnaire revealed that with the average mean score of 2.21 in

the department of nursing, the respondents sometimes experience being hyperactive

after ingesting alcohol. Thus, this depicted that alcohol consumption has an impact in

the behavior of the nursing students.

The results of the correlation between the independent and dependent variables

pointed out that aside from their gender, which has a p-value of 0.907, other

independent variables were not significantly associated with the respondents behavior

when grouped to their profile, since the p-value of their age (0.118), and year level

(0.307) exceeded the 0.05 level of significance. Thus, this reveals that the

respondents’ behavior did not significantly differ by their age, gender and year level

since the observed p-values exceeded at the 0.05 level of significance.

After thoroughly looking into the results of the data analysis, the following

conclusions were made: There is no significant difference on the respondent’s

behavior when grouped according to their profile in terms of age, gender and year

level. Majority of the respondents are 20-22 of age with the population of 20 out of 46

respondents. Majority of the respondents are 1st year with the population of 20 out of

46 respondents.
