TOPIC/TITLE: Volcanoes

TIME ALLOTMENT:120 MINUTES

LEARNING COMPETENCY/IES/OBJECTIVE/S:
At the end of the cycle ,students should be able to:

Describe the effect of high temperature to the formation of gas

ELICIT MATERIALS
Soft drinks
The teacher will show open a bottle of soft drinks .
Can opener
ENGAGE MATERIALS
The teacher will ask the following questions:
1. What do you think are the properties that evolved in
Soft drinks
the formation of gas?
Can opener
2. What causes the fizzing sound?

EXPLORE MATERIALS
Designing the activity
1. Group the students into 4.
2. The group will work on Act.3 found in G-9 Science
Philippine map
textbook pp 168 (PRESSURE)
Colored pens
Guide Question:
ruler
What did you observe in each bottles?
What is the role of hot water in the set up?
3.Do you have same observation as in the soft drinks?
EXPLAIN MATERIALS
The effect of temperature and pressure on the amount of Manila paper
gas that can produce in the liquid. Pentel pen
ELABORATE MATERIALS
1. A fizzing sound was heard followed by the rushing out
of bubbles from the bottles dipped in hot water.its
because of the accumulated gas inside the bottle.
2. The hot water increases the temperature of the soda
drink inside the bottle.as the temperature increases, more
gas is accumulated inside the bottle.this cause the fizzing
sound.
3. While cooking oil is not the same with soda .There was
not much gas released in bottled cooking oil because of
its composition,Soda is carbonated.the high temperature
released gas from soda drink.

EVALUATE MATERIALS
1.What is the relationship between temperature and Paper
pressure in gas formation? pen
2.What is the role of pressure in gas formation?
EXTEND MATERIALS

If we are going to relate the concept is to what is

happening inside the volcano, what is the role of pressure
the Philippines
in volcanic activity.
