AOS Firmware Release Naming Conventions

ADTRAN produces two main types of ADTRAN Operating System (AOS) firmware releases:
• Feature Release – A version of firmware that contains both new features and bug fixes.
• Maintenance Release – A version of firmware that contains only bug fixes and no new features.

Refer to the release notes for a specific release to determine the changes made in that release.

Current Naming Convention

In early 2012, all AOS products began using the current naming convention. The current naming convention
for firmware releases begins with the letter R followed by the release version, using the following pattern:
RXX.YY.ZZ

Feature Release
Maintenance Release
(0 for initial feature releases)

For example, firmware version R10.3.0 designates the initial release of the R10.3 feature release. The next
maintenance release for the R10.3 feature release would be named R10.3.1. The next feature release would
be named R10.4.0. The number of maintenance releases for a given feature release varies.

Previous Naming Conventions

Prior to late 2007, all AOS products used the following naming convention:
XX.YY.ZZ

Example: 13.01.00
