Assignment-3

a. Unethical – Silence against Public Interest is completely unethical.

It is the responsibility of every person working in a company or even as a matter of basic human
instinct to immediately bring to the notice of the authority/administration, any possible
environmental hazard that might have been discovered within the company’s premises and poses a
risk leading to the endangerment of human lives.

All the people working in a company are equally responsible and are part of the well being and
safety of the company and its resources as the company is an artificial entity created out of law and
has no independent identity of its own.

It is also a matter of Moral obligation towards the people serving in the company as well as the
society in general.

b. Ethical – Creating awareness to induce productivity in a system of obsolescence and lethargy with
an intention to improve the overall culture while keeping in mind the business requirements is
ethical.

The benefits of Instant messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Line etc. have created tremendous value
addition in the modern commercial world as well as world of social media.

This in turn increase productivity, as information is transmitted to the intended recipient instantly
and the business requirements are immediately fulfilled.

However, in a rapidly changing world, there is expected some sort of resilience from the older sect
of people with experience for whom the conventional methods have worked in their favor for long
periods of time.

So, convincing the company’s managers about the benefits of technology is towards a greater good
of making the right choice for the overall benefit of the company and can be considered ethical as
this would bring in more efficiency with the vast experience already possessed.

c. Ethical – Creating awareness about one’s own sense of duty and responsibility towards the
Organisation one is working for while indicating towards the expectations of the Management is in
good sense and can construed to be ethical.

A person is hired by the Organisation to meet the stated objectives of the organization by
discharging one’s work responsibilities diligently and effectively.

Any negligence towards the same is not in line with the values, ethics and principles of the
organization and will in turn force the organization to take steps which is not in line with the well
being of the employee concerned through termination, suspension etc.

Therefore, telling an associate and close friend that she needs to pay more attention to her work
responsibilities or the management will fire her is completely ethical as it brings to the notice of the
person concerned that his/her line of actions are not acceptable by the management and thereby
also attempting to save the person concerned of the negative consequences to follow and thus
acting more responsibly and humane as possible.

d. Unethical – Utilization of funds should be undertaken with an objective to achieve organizational

objectives more efficiently and effectively.

Budgets are allocated to every department of an organization to meet their objectives and targets
effectively and efficiently during the fiscal year.

This is done to ensure the department concerned does not face any impediments with respect to
discharge of its duties and functions. However, purchasing of inessential items / equipment’s solely
with the intention to completely utilize the balance available funds is unethical as the purchase of
this equipment is not in the interest of the company and probably might even cost the company
more outflow in terms of Finance cost, in case the company has made borrowings for the purpose of
working capital.

This is also a dangerous precedent in the setting as other departments are likely to follow such
unethical practices, thereby keeping their self-interests over those of the company.

The idea of practicing this approach in order to avoid budget cuts in the following year is not a
strong enough reason to advocate such approaches as far as morality and ethics are concerned.
