DRUG ADDICTION

INTRODUCTION
The main purpose of this research is to provide information on how drugs affect the brain and
body of a person. So what is DRUG ADDICTION? It is called substance use disorder is a
disease that affects a person’s brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of
legal or illegal drug or medication.People are most likely to begin abusing drugs including
tobacco ,alcohol and illegal drugs (e.g shabu) during their adolescence and adulthood. Reports of
drug related crime are common in the Philippines media mainly on news reports. The main
concern tends to be towards SHABU or Methamphetamine which gets the most media attraction.

One of the most abused drugs in the Philippines is a local type methampethamine mixed with
caffeine known as SHABU. This is powerful addictive drug that can cause people to have intense
hallucinations and become extremely paranoid. This stimulant believed to be the drug of choice
for 90% of the Phillipines illegal substance users.Methampethamine cause feelings of euphoria
and the user feels full of energy. Some users of this drugs have even jumped off high rise building
because they believed they could fly.Shabu didn’t arrive in the philippines in the mid eighties, but
it soon became hugely popular among drug users. According to the Dangerous Drugs
Board(DDB),There are 1.8million current drug users in the phillipines and 4.8 million Filipinos
report having used illegal drugs at least once in their lives.More than three-quarters of drug
users are adults(91%),males(87%) and have reached high school(80%).More than two-
thirds(67%) are employed.

It does seem that illegal drugs use is on the rise and this has worrying implications for the
future. There is an urgent need to educate young people as to the dangers of drug use and there is
an also a great need to help those who are already addicted to escape their misery. Most teens do
not escalate from trying drugs to developing an addiction or substance use disorder.Drug use can
be a part of a pattern of risky behavior including unsafe sex, driving while intoxicated or other
hazardous, unsupervise activities.Failure to do this could mean there will be further deterioration
within many Filipino communities.

People are most likely to begin abusing drugs including tobacco, alcohol, and illegal and
prescription drugs during adolescence and young adulthood almost 70 percent of high school
students will have tried alcohol, half will have taken an illegal drug, nearly 40 percent will have
smoked a cigarette, and more than 20 percent will have used a prescription drug for a
nonmedical purpose.1 There are many reasons adolescents use these substances, including the
desire for new experiences, an attempt to deal with problems or perform better in school, and
simple peer pressure. Adolescents are “biologically wired” to seek new experiences and take
risks, as well as to carve out their own identity. Trying drugs may fulfill all of these normal
developmental drives, but in an unhealthy way that can have very serious long-term
consequences.
According to Mario”bangus” Reyes,”Addiction can develop very easily and the consequences of
substance abuse can cause serious problems in a person’s life also harming the lives of their
loved ones”.It can pose serious social and health risk including school failure problems with
family, memory increased risk of contracting an infectious disease(like HIV or hepatitis C)via
risky visual behavior..Unfortunately when a person’s addicted to drugs or alcohol attaining a
clean and sober lifestyle isn’t nearly as easy to achieve as some may think. So,as what I said
before ,this is to provide info on how drugs affects,We agree to provide info. To the people to be
warn and to help our fellow citizens in their life.

with law. A person convicted of a drug offence will receive a criminal record and this can lead to
difficulties In getting a job, credit or visas for overseas travel. The cost of purchasing drugs can
lead to a financial problems and drug use can lead to a social and emotional problems that affect
relationships with family and friends Many factors influence whether an adolescent tries drugs,
including the availability of drugs within the neighborhood, community, and school and whether
the adolescent’s friends are using them. The family environment is also important: Violence,
physical or emotional abuse, mental illness, or drug use in the household increase the likelihood
an adolescent will use drugs. Finally, an adolescent’s inherited genetic vulnerability; personality
traits like poor impulse control or a high need for excitement; mental health conditions such as
depression, anxiety, or ADHD; and beliefs such as that drugs are “cool” or harmless make it
more likely that an adolescent will use drugs

CONCLUSIO
We’ve shown in this presentation that addiction is prevalent in our country, affecting millions of
people. Incidents are extremely high in cases of addiction. Not to mention that globally it is a
very common issue. The effects I mentioned before might not be familiar with you. To sum it up
– the effects might be wondrous for a moment but not for long it will damage your body, risking
your life. Drug addiction should be taken as a serious problem. People going through this kind of
situation should not be taken for granted. Our action is to be guided them ,to surrounded of the
people they love and feel for them that they are loved and not alone in this world. We recommend
them to go to a Drug rehabilitation facilities/centers to be guided. It is becoming more common
for filipinos to go abroad to seek the most effective treatment for their addictions,If their plan to
go overseas,We recomment them to go to DRUG AND ALCOHOL REHAB ASIA:it is based in
thailand and is considered to be one of the leading rehab in asia or if they don’t have enough
money,We suggests “NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS”; this is a twelve step program that supports
the individual to escape their addictions. This fellowship is not just focused on stopping the drug
abuse but also on building a life worth living. Drug addiction should be given attention
especially those who are really trying their best to overcome such addiction, and for those who
are still in the stage of addiction or being confused on what to do. Always remember that you are
not alone. There are certain people and agencies that you can lean on to, they would help you.
Don't lose hope, there is always hope for those who strive hard and determine to change and
make a difference.
