I. Introduction

Our selected topic is about the Economic implications of family

and country migration. According to the Philippine statistics
authority, it is estimated that around 2.3 million Filipinos have
migrated from April to September 2018. This is our chosen topic
because of the growing number of Filipino migrant workers whether
or not they have completed a course. We do not even notice it but in
each of these philosophical workers in a foreign country it greatly
affects his own family and the country in which he lives.
Many people seek a higher standard of living to satisfy their
needs as well as their wants so if they are given the opportunity to
work abroad, they will acceptreceive it immediately. It is not clear to
us that Filipino workers in our country receive little or no wages.
Consequently, many Filipinos prefer to work abroad because of the
higher wages they receive compared to the Philippines and the more
opportunities they have for better employment abroad.
As students we need to learn this so that at an early age we
know firsthand what kind of sacrifices our parents make going
abroad to provide for the needs of their families and what they are
the contributors of our Filipino country men to different countries
in our economy and country.
We see the OFWs as new heroes because of their contribution
to the growth or development of our economy. They aim to earn
higher wages to provide for their families and for their own benefit
but in their knowledge, they also help by introducing remittances in
our country. Remittances are the assets that OFWs send to the
Philippines that help to boost the domestic currency of our country.
This also means that the value of the peso against the dollar
remains stable.
Despite the good that they are contributing to the development
and stimulation of our economy, we are developing another problem
that our country will face. One of these is the depletion of talented

Filipino workers in our country. Therefore, it is important to study

and evaluate the economic implications of migrating country to
family and nation. So that we can have a deeper understanding of
this issue.

II. Terminologies

become skilled and skilled in their skills whose investment is

Total Number of OFWs Estimated at 2.3 Million (Results from the 2018
Philippine Overseas Survey)
Reference Number: 2019-066
 Release Date: April 30, 2019
The number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who have worked
overseas at any one time during April to September 2018 is
estimated at 2.3 million. Overseas Contract Workers (OCW) with
existing employment contracts make up 96.2 percent of the total
OFWs during the period April to September 2018. The remaining
(3.8%) work abroad without a contract (Table 1) .
There are more women than men in OFWs, including OFW women
who make up 55.8 percent of the total OFWs. OFW females were
generally younger than male OFWs, with half (47.5%) of OFW
females belonging to the age group of 25 to 34 years. In
comparison, male OFWs in this group made up 38.9 percent. OFW
males aged 45 years and older make up 21.2 percent of all OFW
males while their female counterparts in this group make up 14.5
percent
Among occupational groups, occupational elements (37.1%) were
the largest group of OFWs. The other major occupational groups
were service and sales workers (18.8%) and operators and machines
and leaders (13.8%). More than half of OFW women are in
elementary occupation (58.7%). Among OFW men, the largest group
was plant and machine operators and labor workers (27.8%) (Table
2).
CALABARZON reported the largest share of OFWs with 17.9 percent
followed by Central Luzon with 14.3 percent, and the National
Capital Region and Ilocos Region each with 9.7 percent share. Fifty
percent of the total OFWs came from these four regions (Table 2).

One in four (24.3%) OFWs worked in Saudi Arabia, which remained

the highest destination of OFWs from April to September 2018.
OFWs working in the United Arab Emirates made up 15.7 percent,
Hongkong (6.3% ), Kuwait (5.7%)), Taiwan (5.5%) and Qatar (5.2%)
were the other popular destinations of OFWs (Table 3).
The total remittance submitted by OFWs during April to September
2018 is approximately 235.9 billion pesos. These remittances
include cash sent home (169.4 billion pesos), cash brought home
(55.2 billion pesos) and class remittances (11.2 billion pesos). The
majority of OFWs submitted their remittance through banks
(52.8%) while the rest were through money transfer services
(45.0%), agencies or local offices (2.0%) and the remainder in 0.1
percent, respectively (Tables 4 and 5).
The remittances sent by OFWs to their families may only be part of
the total salary received by OFWs. Data on remittances in this
report are based on answers provided by survey respondents to
questions about how much cash remittance the family received
during April through September 2018 from a family member an
OFW and how much cash it made the member go home during the
reference period, if any. Further, if the family received the goods
and products shipped by this OFW during the reference period,
then the implied value of such goods is included in its total
remittance (Tables 4 and 5).
OFW's migrant country has an impact on their families
Many are unaware of the impact that is happening to the families of
our Overseas Filipino Workers or OFWs who are forced or forced to
leave the country for the sake of their loved ones.
Due to the unwillingness to provide for their children's education,
our OFWs are forced to leave the country. Unemployment in our
country, poverty and inadequate wages from employers if they are
employed.
They do not know what they will bring to the country to work for.
What matters to them and sticks to their minds is that they earn a

yen, dinar, dollar or pound worth more than our money. So even
though many of our OFWs are not well-off and doomed their
immigrant country, many of our fellow countrymen still do not stop
gambling and venture to work abroad.
This is because some of our fellow citizens are fortunate enough to
find good companies and employers that they work for. The blessed
OFWs were seen building their houses, having cars, educating their
children and in short, improving their former lives.
What makes the mother and father country so alien and sometimes
the same is that they lose their emotional investment to their loved
ones. Due to their lack of presence the fragility of their family, the
separation of their wives and the discouragement of their children is
the result! Because of the desire to provide all the prosperity to the
family company they are filling it with material things.
Communication is very important for our OFWs! Communication is
the only way to keep them entertained and to relieve their fatigue
when they talk and find you safe and well. As long as you have
internet, Facebook, Messenger, Viber and Skype are free. You can
meet as you talk and for as long as it's free. We should pray to all
OFWs in different countries that they will be able to overcome and
overcome the sacrifices and suffering they are facing. Avoid
criticisms, addressing problems or not improving and complaining
of needs when not really needed.

IV. Analysis
It is related to our topic that it helps to further our knowledge of the
Economic implications of family and national migration. One of the
stipulations in our subsidies is the total number of Overseas
Filipino Workers abroad. It states that there are more women
working abroad than men. It has been said in our class discussion
that as a woman the migrant country has a huge impact on the
family as it is not the case that the man from the other country still
fulfills his role as breadwinner of the family. This is the impact of
our country's immigrant country on our families. Also noted in our
excerpts is the number of professional philosophers working
abroad. It states the large number of graduates who are graduates
and who have completed their education who prefer to work abroad
because of the higher wages and more opportunities in our country.
It is only here that we can see the impact this will have on our
country and the economy as a result of our shortage of skilled
workers to work in our country.

A. In your life as a student

It is important to know or evaluate this topic or sources because
we as a student are the hope of the people. It is important,
therefore, that we learn something early on in our society. Because
in the future we will also be seniors and may replace current ones.
From the time we are young we should know who we are, because
of this we can help our society because our next generation
depends on us. Because as we grow older there are those who enter
into our minds with different knowledge. Through it, the next
generation will be beautiful as we bring together what we have
learned and learned. You will do it in a good way. Many are now
suffering because of the crisis brought by the Government, young
people are often affected. Many young people quit school because
life is too stressful. They do not know how the youth of the future
will be. Let us not allow every one of our young people to suffer.
Arm for the well-being of each of the young people, cooperation is

10 | Page

needed. Education is our weapon for the future we always look

forward to, not only to us but also to our country of the Philippines
that wants to improve it. Poverty is not a hindrance to the future.
We make our own destiny in life. In success we must not forget that
God is there to guide our hope for success. We can use this not only
in the future but also in the present to share this issue so that
others can be aware of it and think of suggestions or opinions on
resolving this issue.

B. You as a citizen
It is also very important as a citizen because if the migrant
country continues to work, it may affect the community because of
the shortage of labor and the lack of attention of the community
because other countries are enjoying more because also inadequate
and inadequate wages in our own country. The prices of
commodities are rising, but wages are still rising. All of us citizens
have dreams, for the family of loved ones and for themselves, many
of our friends believe in happy and prosperous families but in
reality when you dream of a happy and prosperous family there is
always money here. ) When you dream of a good home and land
following it is MUCH here in the Philippines you can get those
dreams if you have a good job position, if you earn here at a rate of
50 to 60k per month as being employee it means you are in a
higher position, but if you are in your 30's and an average employee
you may find it difficult to find a job here in the Philippines so many
people are working overseas as OFW so they can pursue their
dream of working more. they are here in the pine. And their wages
are higher in foreign countries than in our country.

C. To others as a citizens
This is also important to other citizens because all people are
closely related. It is possible that when a citizen leaves a country,
he or she may push other people to a foreign country because of the
Concept of making more money abroad. And it may be because of

11 | Page
12

this phenomenon that a community will eventually become

discouraged because of the little attention it provides. As more and
more countries are opting out of age there is no age discrimination
even if you reach 40 to 50 of age you will still be accepted as an
employee as long as you can. Government benefits Many rich
countries have great benefits especially in aging so most of them are
aiming for legal citizenship depending on the country they go to.
Many Filipinos are willing to work abroad because of low pay to the
Filipino workers. Even graduates of good grades still pay less while
in overseas countries they earn double the income of overseas
Filipino workers. An OFW salary is a great help to cover all the
expenses and education of the children in addition to accumulating
the remaining salary. Compared to the country, employees with
high deductible income tax rates. Excludes SSS premiums, Pag-
IBIG funds, and other payday loans.

D. In our country
Due to the acceleration of globalization in the global economy, some
developing countries lack workers to support their development.
This shortage is supplemented by the strength of the Philippine
labor force. Lack of opportunity for employment in a foreign country
is also one of the factors driving the foreign-born Philippines. Low
wages. Low wages here in the Philippines are also driving other
Filipinos out of the country. The money that OFWs send to the
Philippines helps to stabilize our country's economy. The interior is
also stimulated, especially on special occasions such as the holiday
season. Increasing remittance entering the country is due to the
increasing number of OFWs working in high-wage sectors. It is very
important to examine and study this topic in our country, because
every foreign worker will reduce our labor force. And if it continues,
national sovereignty may be weakened or lost. Because the workers
in our country are just so opposed to what we are about to do, we
have to ask for help from abroad, not knowing if we are really
helping or just taking this opportunity to earn or influence our
country.

V. Conclusion
From the survey conducted It is said that social issues are rooted in
human needs. Because people in different countries have the ability
to better meet their needs through higher wages that they do not
enjoy in their own country. It is also clear to us what the impact of
the migrant country is on our family and country workers. to the
country and the family. So, for us it would be better if it were in this
country that everyone would just enrich their lifestyle as a
government servant.
In all of this, it is still possible to say that it is still early. It is
advisable that at first these issues can be avoided. Just like
learning. Young people need to be good learners and in the future
be globally competitive or able to keep pace with the world so that
the issues we face today will not be able to continue in the next
generation. And those who are affected and experiencing these
issues at the moment should just be analytical, and wise in finding
a job because in every decision we make, we are not the only ones
affected.
