Total Number of OFWs Estimated at 2.3 Million (Results from the 2018
Philippine Overseas Survey)
Reference Number: 2019-066
Release Date: April 30, 2019
The number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who have worked
overseas at any one time during April to September 2018 is
estimated at 2.3 million. Overseas Contract Workers (OCW) with
existing employment contracts make up 96.2 percent of the total
OFWs during the period April to September 2018. The remaining
(3.8%) work abroad without a contract (Table 1) .
There are more women than men in OFWs, including OFW women
who make up 55.8 percent of the total OFWs. OFW females were
generally younger than male OFWs, with half (47.5%) of OFW
females belonging to the age group of 25 to 34 years. In
comparison, male OFWs in this group made up 38.9 percent. OFW
males aged 45 years and older make up 21.2 percent of all OFW
males while their female counterparts in this group make up 14.5
percent
Among occupational groups, occupational elements (37.1%) were
the largest group of OFWs. The other major occupational groups
were service and sales workers (18.8%) and operators and machines
and leaders (13.8%). More than half of OFW women are in
elementary occupation (58.7%). Among OFW men, the largest group
was plant and machine operators and labor workers (27.8%) (Table
2).
CALABARZON reported the largest share of OFWs with 17.9 percent
followed by Central Luzon with 14.3 percent, and the National
Capital Region and Ilocos Region each with 9.7 percent share. Fifty
percent of the total OFWs came from these four regions (Table 2).

yen, dinar, dollar or pound worth more than our money. So even
though many of our OFWs are not well-off and doomed their
immigrant country, many of our fellow countrymen still do not stop
gambling and venture to work abroad.
This is because some of our fellow citizens are fortunate enough to
find good companies and employers that they work for. The blessed
OFWs were seen building their houses, having cars, educating their
children and in short, improving their former lives.
What makes the mother and father country so alien and sometimes
the same is that they lose their emotional investment to their loved
ones. Due to their lack of presence the fragility of their family, the
separation of their wives and the discouragement of their children is
the result! Because of the desire to provide all the prosperity to the
family company they are filling it with material things.
Communication is very important for our OFWs! Communication is
the only way to keep them entertained and to relieve their fatigue
when they talk and find you safe and well. As long as you have
internet, Facebook, Messenger, Viber and Skype are free. You can
meet as you talk and for as long as it's free. We should pray to all
OFWs in different countries that they will be able to overcome and
overcome the sacrifices and suffering they are facing. Avoid
criticisms, addressing problems or not improving and complaining
of needs when not really needed.

IV. Analysis
It is related to our topic that it helps to further our knowledge of the
Economic implications of family and national migration. One of the
stipulations in our subsidies is the total number of Overseas
Filipino Workers abroad. It states that there are more women
working abroad than men. It has been said in our class discussion
that as a woman the migrant country has a huge impact on the
family as it is not the case that the man from the other country still
fulfills his role as breadwinner of the family. This is the impact of
our country's immigrant country on our families. Also noted in our
excerpts is the number of professional philosophers working
abroad. It states the large number of graduates who are graduates
and who have completed their education who prefer to work abroad
because of the higher wages and more opportunities in our country.
It is only here that we can see the impact this will have on our
country and the economy as a result of our shortage of skilled
workers to work in our country.

B. You as a citizen
It is also very important as a citizen because if the migrant
country continues to work, it may affect the community because of
the shortage of labor and the lack of attention of the community
because other countries are enjoying more because also inadequate
and inadequate wages in our own country. The prices of
commodities are rising, but wages are still rising. All of us citizens
have dreams, for the family of loved ones and for themselves, many
of our friends believe in happy and prosperous families but in
reality when you dream of a happy and prosperous family there is
always money here. ) When you dream of a good home and land
following it is MUCH here in the Philippines you can get those
dreams if you have a good job position, if you earn here at a rate of
50 to 60k per month as being employee it means you are in a
higher position, but if you are in your 30's and an average employee
you may find it difficult to find a job here in the Philippines so many
people are working overseas as OFW so they can pursue their
dream of working more. they are here in the pine. And their wages
are higher in foreign countries than in our country.
C. To others as a citizens
This is also important to other citizens because all people are
closely related. It is possible that when a citizen leaves a country,
he or she may push other people to a foreign country because of the
Concept of making more money abroad. And it may be because of

D. In our country
Due to the acceleration of globalization in the global economy, some
developing countries lack workers to support their development.
This shortage is supplemented by the strength of the Philippine
labor force. Lack of opportunity for employment in a foreign country
is also one of the factors driving the foreign-born Philippines. Low
wages. Low wages here in the Philippines are also driving other
Filipinos out of the country. The money that OFWs send to the
Philippines helps to stabilize our country's economy. The interior is
also stimulated, especially on special occasions such as the holiday
season. Increasing remittance entering the country is due to the
increasing number of OFWs working in high-wage sectors. It is very
important to examine and study this topic in our country, because
every foreign worker will reduce our labor force. And if it continues,
national sovereignty may be weakened or lost. Because the workers
in our country are just so opposed to what we are about to do, we
have to ask for help from abroad, not knowing if we are really
helping or just taking this opportunity to earn or influence our
country.

V. Conclusion
From the survey conducted It is said that social issues are rooted in
human needs. Because people in different countries have the ability
to better meet their needs through higher wages that they do not
enjoy in their own country. It is also clear to us what the impact of
the migrant country is on our family and country workers. to the
country and the family. So, for us it would be better if it were in this
country that everyone would just enrich their lifestyle as a
government servant.
In all of this, it is still possible to say that it is still early. It is
advisable that at first these issues can be avoided. Just like
learning. Young people need to be good learners and in the future
be globally competitive or able to keep pace with the world so that
the issues we face today will not be able to continue in the next
generation. And those who are affected and experiencing these
issues at the moment should just be analytical, and wise in finding
a job because in every decision we make, we are not the only ones
affected.
