Abstract— Inherent uncertainties in demands and supply make it difficult for supply chains to achieve optimum
inventory replenishment, resulting in loss of sales or keeping excessive inventories. An unkempt inventory can
take up to one-third of an organization’s annual investment. Therefore, in order to compete with invariably erratic
demands, it is not only challenging to develop an intelligent system to maintain and control an optimum level of
inventory but has also become mandatory. Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) can be termed as the torchbearer of
Make in India Revolution. Modern transportation is the backbone of a developing country and an EMU can lead
us through this journey. The techniques used in an EMU can also be used for a metro coach which is the modern
technology of transportation every economy thrives for and hence it is imperative that we meet the demand and
supply of this industry which can only be achieved by implementing proper as well as optimized inventory control
techniques. Here we have tried to study the inventory control system of an EMU coach manufacturing industry
using ABC and HML analysis method.
