B.  PRIMING
 Checking of assignment
Identify the value of each quartiles by finding the position of first quartile, second quartile
and third quartile using Mendenhall and Sincich method.
4 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 14 15
1 1 1 11
Q1 ¿ (n+ 1) = (10+1) = (11) = = 2.75th≅ 3(rounded off to the nearest integer)
4 4 4 4
Therefore, Q1 = 7
2 2 2 22 9+10
Q1 ¿ (n+ 1) = (10+1) = (11) = = 5.5th ( = 9.5)
4 4 4 4 2
Therefore, Q2 = 9.5
3 3 3 33
Q1 ¿ (n+ 1) = (10+1) = (11) = = 8.25th ≅ 8(rounded off to the nearest integer)
4 4 4 4
Therefore, Q3 = 12

C. MOTIVATION
Give me some words that start with the suffixes “quart, quadri, quadru or
quatern”.
Examples: Quarter, quadrant, quadruplets, quadrilateral.
D. ACTIVITY
Rounding off Drill!
I will be posting decimal numbers and for one minute, you are going to
round off those numbers to the nearest integer as many as you can.
Take note: If the value is in quartile one and falls halfway, round it up.
If the values is in quartile three and falls halfway, round it down.
If the values in quartile two is a decimal number, retain the value.
IV. ANALYSIS
1. How did you find the activity? Are you pressured?
2. What have you noticed about the activity? How do we round off in lower
quartile?
3. How about rounding off in upper quartile?

V. ABSTRACTION

LINEAR INTERPOLATION
Linear Interpolation is a way to find values between a pair of data points. This
method is applicable when the position of quartile is a decimal number.

Example 1. Albert’s score on her quizzes on the whole school year were as follows:
14, 13, 10, 13, 11, 15, 13, 12
A. Arrange the data in ascending order.
10, 11, 12, 13, 13, 13, 14, 15
B. Locate the position of quartiles using Mendenhall and Sincich method.
1 1 1 9
Q1 ¿ (n+ 1) = (8+1) = ( 9) = = 2.25th ≅ 2(rounded off to the nearest integer)
4 4 4 4
Therefore, Q1 = 11
2 2 2 22 13+13
Q1 ¿ (n+ 1) = (8+1) = ( 9) = = 5.5th ( = 13)
4 4 4 4 2
Therefore, Q2 = 13
3 3 3 27
Q1 ¿ (n+ 1) = (8+1) = ( 9) = = 6.75th ≅ 7(rounded off to the nearest integer)
4 4 4 4
Therefore, Q3 = 14
C. Identify the value of quartiles using linear interpolation. Interpolate the
value to obtain the quartiles.

 Identify the value of lower quartile (Q1)

Step 1. Subtract 2rd data from 3rd data.

12-11 = 1
Step 2. Multiply the result to the decimal part of the first quartile’s position.
1(0.25) = 0.25
Step 3. Add the result to the lower data in step 1.
0.25 + 11 = 11. 25
Therefore, Q1 = 11.25

 Identify the value of middle quartile (Q2)

Step 1. Subtract 5thdata from 6th data.

13-13 = 0
Step 2. Multiply the result to the decimal part of the second quartile’s position.
0(0.5) = 0
Step 3. Add the result to the lower data in step 1.
0+ 13 = 13
Therefore, Q1 = 13

 Identify the value of middle quartile (Q2)

Step 1. Subtract 6thdata from 7th data.
14-13 = 1
Step 2. Multiply the result to the decimal part of the frist quartile’s position.
1(0.75) = 0.75
Step 3. Add the result to the lower data in step 1.
0.75 + 13 = 13. 75
Therefore, Q1 = 13.75
VI. APPLICATION
FIRST TEN!
I will be posting ungrouped set of data on the board. After solving what is
needed, fall in a line and I am going to check your work. First ten students who will get
the correct answer will get 10 points, 11th to 15th students who will get the correct
answer will get 5 points and 3 points for the rest.
1. 4, 9, 7, 14, 10, 8, 12, 15, 6, 11
2. 87, 109, 79, 80, 96, 95, 90, 92

VII. ASSESSMENT
On one whole sheet of paper, identify the first quartile, second quartile and third
quartile of the following raw data:
1. 3, 1, 15, 9, 7, 1, 14, 11, 2, 3
2. 43, 41, 30, 38, 37, 37, 39, 45.
VIII. ASSIGNMENT
What is the formula for getting the quartiles of grouped data?
Give one example of solving quartiles for grouped data.

VII. REMARKS
