INTODUCTION

The Puerto Princesa was part of the Palawan where it was known for having beach resorts and seafood
reastaurants. It was acclamed for being the cleanest and greenest city in the philippines.

The Puerto Princesa have the famous underground river that was listed as a UNESCO heritage site is
1999 and was voted in NEW7WONDERS of NATURE in 2012.

History

The "Puerto Princesa" was attribute to a princess-like maiden who was said that roamed around the
certain nights in the early days that was according to the legends. But some says that the place was
named after Princess Asuncion that later on die for unknown data.

During Spanish colonizers founded the settlement on march 4, 1872 that was the start of their
exploration on the island.

Puerto Princesa has it has own hero in the time of world war ii where dr. Higinio Acosta-Mendoza
organized the Palawan guerillas that fights the Japanese soldiers with the high rank of captain and was
beheaded by the Japanese officials.

The Iwahig prison and Penal farm where it was built for the prisoners in American period that has its
vocational activities that incudes: farming, fishing, forestry, carpentry, and hospital paramedical work.

The Plaza Cuartel where the mass killing of 143 Americans that was prisoners during the World War II.
The mass killing was made by the Japanese soldiers. Some of the survivors was managed to swim in the
nearest island (Iwahig) and some burned bodies was buried at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery
in United States.

Culture

Puerto Princesa has a various cultures of migrants from Philippine country and from other countries. But
despite of the migrants, the original inhabitants are the Cuyunons that has rich legacy of folklores and
traditions that contributes to puerto princesa. some ethnic groups are the Tagbanuas, Palaw’an, Tau’t
bato and the Bataks, each group has its distinct culture and its own beliefs. The predominant local
tongue that uses was the Cuyuno. some languages are also used like English and Tagalog, dialects such
as Bicolano, Cebuano, Hiligaynon, and Ilocano.
