RISING FROM THE ASHES: RELIVING THE COMPASSION OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL THROUGH
FINANCIAL LITERACY AND PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

NARRATIVE/DESCRIPTIVE REPORT

Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants-Adamson University together with Adamson

Junior Marketing Association conducted a seminar about financial literacy and production
management at the San Pablo Apostol Parish on September 22, 2018. This seminar is intended
to educate the target participants, who were mostly fathers, mothers and young adults, on how
to properly manage their finances in order for them to meet not just their daily expenditures
but also their long-term financing needs. They were also given a talk about entrepreneurship
mainly on how to start their own business no matter how small it may be.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

There was a construction going on just beside the venue which caused distraction to
both the speaker and participants, but as I observed, it neither made the participants
discouraged to listen and learn nor did it make the speakers hesitant to impart their knowledge
about the subject matter.

PERSONAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT

The reason why we came up with the title, “Rising from the Ashes,” is that our target
participants experienced fire last year. They were left devastated due to the events they
encountered and we are very much eager to extend our hands in order to help them rise up. As
a part of a sustainable contribution to that community, we have decided to help them become
financially educated. One thing that struck me the most is that the first question speakers often
ask is, “Who wants to be rich?” and everybody, not just the participants, would raise their
hands with hopeful eyes. And so I realized how hard it is to earn money, to save and to invest
for the future given the situation of our country nowadays. Every day, a challenge is being
imposed on us, Filipinos, to contribute something good to help boost our economy as a whole,
so that there would no longer be poor people, and not just that, but also to boost our personal
economies, the way we manage our own resources, money and time, so we are always one
step ahead.
