1. Activity: Standing on the Shoulder of the Giants

Procedures: Divide the class into four groups. Each group will be assigned the three time
periods (ancient, medieval, and modern) and Philippine inventions. Each member of the group
should search for one great achievement during the assigned time period. Afterwards,
accomplish the following tasks:
a. Draw or print a picture of your chosen achievement. As a group, collect and paste these
inventions on a ¼ illustration board. Design the board with a theme appropriate to the
assigned time period.
b. Explain in your own words how each invention works. Also identify their use and
purpose. Paste the information at the back of the illustration board.
c. Present your output in class (February 1). Conclude your report by discussing how these
inventions influenced the people and the society during the time period when they were
made.
d. The twist: Begin your group presentation with a 40 second- to 1-minute introduction in
a creative way (dance, skit, pantomime, song, rap, jingle, charade, and the like).

2. Watch the videos indicated in Lesson 1 (Historical Antecedents) of our course syllabus.
Then, write a two-paragraph reflection focusing on what you learned about the
interaction of science, technology, and society. (to be submitted on February 1)
