AIM: TO DERIVETIME-CURRENT CHARACTERISTIC OF

DEFINITE TIME OVER CURRENT RELAY BY EXPERIMENT

EQUIPMENTS:
(1) D.C. power supply 0-30V
(2) A meter 0-10A
(3) Auto Transformer
(4) Lamp load

THEORY:
The block diagram of the definite time over current relay is shown in fig.In this,
time delay circuit is kept after the input, rectifier and the level detector. After
the time delay circuit, the level detector, amplifier and output stage are
provided. When the peak of the input signal exceeds the reference level, the
time delay circuit starts and after a pre-set time delay drives the output relay.
The static circuitry is fully protected against high transient voltages and
accidental reversal of auxiliary supply polarity. Here time of operation of relay
is constant irrespective of magnitude of current. Definite time over current relay
is single quantity relay. It means it requires only current as input signal. Current
for relay is given by secondary winding of current transformer. So that relay is
connected to the secondary of CT.

TECHNICAL DATA OF RELAY TYPE CTU 12:

Current Rating: 1A OR 5A. Our relay is 5 A rating.

Current Settings: 50-200%, It means 2.5A to 10A
Time Settings: 0.1 to 1 Seconds, 0.3 to 3 Seconds, 0.6 to 6 Seconds
Our relay has operating time of 0.3 to 3 Seconds
2.5 to 25 Seconds generally necessary for stalling protection of induction
motor.
Auxiliary Supply: 30,110 and 220 V DC standard. We use 30 V DC
